"And that's all he wanted to do. Just skip training." Raph chuckled as we all did, too.
The fireplace was warming up the rest of the house and boy, did it feel great...
Patience wrapped herself up like a burrito in a blanket that she had found in the closet in the hallway. I lay on three different pillows on the couch and watch the fire dance in a variety of ways. My ears rattled because I am relaxed and my eyes grew heavier and heavier due to the flames putting me under naturally. I listened to the stories everyone had shared and then remembered Stan dropped by earlier to check on us and didn't come back for the rest of the night. He was respectful of giving us our space.
The way I put my head on a pillow was like a dog, chin, and neck only. My mouth was hiding in the cushion and just my eyes and nose were visible to see.
"What about you, Patience? Have anything to share?" Mikey smiled.
"No..."
"You said you had something to tell me nearly a week ago," I mention it from the pillows.
"I don't know..." She says, backing away from the idea of sharing her life with us.
"We won't force you to say anything," Donnie said.
"I understand." Patience says, closing her eyes and reopening them again. "To start off... I'm not what you think." She said. That raised a few eyebrows in the room. "I'm a mutant."
"Really? You don't look like one." I say.
"I can shift to my form whenever I want." Patience explained. "Kind of like you, Osa."
"What are you?" I ask.
"... a mutant lizard." She begins to look for the next words to prepare her new sentence. "I was seven years old when Baxter Stockman and Shredder mutated me. I escaped and taught myself archery in the shadows of New York."
New York?! We were in New York and we never heard of Patience being there! We all thought that was incredible to hear. When she mentioned Shredder and a man named Baxter Stockman, the Brothers and Splinter were dumbfounded. They have something in common with this mutant girl!
"That's crazy," Leo says.
"Very." Says Patience. "Shredder killed my family, Casey was raised by our grandparents, and I was still in Manhattan..."
"Wait. Casey is your brother?!" Raph exclaimed.
Patience nodded. "Yeah, I'm his... twin sister."
"That explains why we see no photos of you. You were in Manhattan." Leo caught on. "We never saw you."
Patience smirked at Leo. "I had my own thing spots." She cleared her throat and asked us, "Should I show you my form?"
"If you're comfortable with it," Donnie says.
"Whenever you're ready," I whisper, taking off my glasses.
The seventeen-year-old inhales deeply and lets it out slowly as she closes her eyes. Her natural skin color faded to a light grey with scales forming on the surface of her hands and face. The fire showed the detail of her body forming. Patience's face became flat, her hair disappeared, her nose splitting into separate nostrils and then a thick tail creeping from behind her. She only lost one digit on both hands, eight in all. Finally, a blue tongue peeked out of her mouth.
She reopens her eyes and gets a reaction from all of us. Our jaws dropped, not even blinking. I was too tired to do anything but I am squealing on the inside.
