Stef’s POV
Cass called, pretty much as soon a she landed. Apparently: her and Zayn were on the same flight as Josh, not sitting together, but they made, I quote “light conversation” before and after the flight. Sarah did collect Josh from the airport, apparently with mixed reactions to seeing him.
We weren’t all officially meeting up (boys included) until Niall and Wardy’s engagement, and the girl’s night is the night before engagement so maybe there should be some sort of get together lunch thing. I told this all to Wardy and she agreed, continuing to tell me that Liam and Maryanne might not be able to make it to the engagement, which was slightly disappointing. She didn’t tell me why, but I kind of felt obliged to ask, so when I did, she just shrugged and waved it off as if it were nothing.
*
Friday morning was quite a commotion, Wardy rushing around, collecting last minute things for the engagement, even though Taylor (her sister) and her mother were organising this all for her.
Finally, somebody had the guts to tell her to stop and relax. Surprisingly, it was Louis, who sort of just grabbed her as she was running around the house, sat her down and told her to stop. Then next thing he told her was to only worry about tonight and what she would wear. Well, that started a whole new ordeal and she pretty much locked herself in her room co-ordinating outfits.
Several times while she was doing that, Niall and Louis told me to go and help her, and each time I replied with: I’m about as organised as she is. At last, Wardy reappeared in a navy blue dress dotted with red, a red cardigan and black flats.
“Is this casual-but-appropriate-enough-for-the-city-look?” She asked. I nodded, as did the other two.
“So what are you going to wear?” Louis asked.
I shrugged. “You mean you haven’t decided?” Wardy exclaimed. “Come on. Let’s choose an outfit.” And she literally dragged me to my room and began going through every item of clothing I had brought with me. “Not many dresses or skirts.” She mumbled as she picked up every item and then threw it behind her. She continued this action until she’d set aside a few items of clothing.
“Ok, I’ve narrowed it down to these.” She showed me a few of the outfits she’s chosen. “Personally, I think this one would look the best.” She held up a pair of sunflower shorts and blue-green tank top. “Pair them up with those black wedges,” She pointed to the wardrobe, where they sat neatly in amongst the other few pairs of shoes. “And you have the perfect outfit. What do you think?”
“I think it’s fabulous.” I replied. It truly was, because if I’d decided what I was going to wear, then it would have included jeans and a t-shirt.
Sarah’s POV
Josh woke me up around eleven. “Time to get up sleepy head.” He shook my shoulder lightly. Luckily, I didn’t have to go to work today which meant I got to sleep in and pre-plan my weekend. This weekend I was going to have to add Josh into my plans, not that I was going to have any, partially because of the engagement and there was the possibility that I was going to get drunk so that would mean a hangover on Sunday. Well... there’s my weekend planned. Plus, school had only started three days ago; at least I’m only a casual relief teacher/substitute teacher. So the next few weeks hopefully weren’t going to be too busy.
“I don’t wanna get up.” Slightly annoyed that he had woken me.
“Come on.” He pleaded. He knelt down beside the bed and played with my hair. “I made you breakfast.”
This made me open my eyes slightly and look at him. “For once I didn’t cook?” I was surprised; almost always I cooked, no matter what meal or time of day.
He nodded. “Aww, thank you.” I complimented. As he stood he kissed my forehead and left the room.
Sure enough, when I’d got up, he’d made toast with crunchy peanut butter, the bread was burnt, and he’d also made me coffee which I could smell was way too strong. It was the thought that counted though.
“Don’t forget that you’re going out tonight, but the girls are coming here first, so I’ll make myself scarce and find something to do.” He explained, sitting down across from me as he sipped at his tea.
I looked at him intently. “Well, you could always go and hang out at Wardy and Niall’s, because Louis and Niall should be there.” I suggested, shrugging. “And how do you know that I’m going out tonight, I don’t believe I told you.”
He shrugged. “It was in your calendar on the wall.”
“Oh, ok.”
Breakfast was eaten in silence. It wasn’t comfortable silence though, not awkward; I could feel him staring at me while I looked down trying to keep my attention on my toast, and when I looked at him, he did the same.
“Hey,” He said, finally breaking the silence. I glanced up before looking at my coffee which I’d barely touched. “I know that you said not to worry about it, but I did, so I thought that maybe you’d like to go to lunch today? You don’t have to say yes, I just thought that maybe you might like to go.” He offered.
“Umm... ok.” I was unsure why I said yes, and part of me thought that I did it out of pity, the other part because it would be romantic and kind of sweet. I did love him. So I don’t know why I pitied him, but I did, because I would have otherwise said no. “So... where are we going?”
“Surprise.” He replied.
I rolled my eyes. “Fine. At least tell me what the dress code is.”
He thought about that for a while. “Smart casual.” He decided.
“Ok. And what time shall we be leaving?”
He looked over at the clock on the wall. “Twelve thirty?” He estimated.
I nodded and disappeared back into our room. “Smart casual.” I muttered as I opened my wardrobe and immediately began looking through my dresses. I stopped on one that I’d received as a Christmas present from my sister. I pulled it out and looked at it for a very long time. It would be perfect for the occasion, but it wasn’t a complete look. Cream heels to top it off and as I walked back out, planning on impressing him, he wasn’t even in the room.
“Well,” I mumbled. “This is embarrassing.”
I felt him put a hand across my shoulders. “You look beautiful.” He exaggerated.
“No, I really don’t.” I denied.
“Well then, we should be going.” We made our way out to lunch.
