You could feel the tension in the air, as people continued doing their regular jobs. A few gave me a slight nod before walking over to the other direction, as I sat quietly leaning onto Lily's shoulder.

Ever since a few weeks ago, packs on the east side have been mysteriously attacked by intruders. So severe that no one has survived. Some blame it on the rogues whom are possibly forming an alliances with each other. It would be highly unreasonable though. They don't do well in packs; a structure. But it's still a possibility.

Uncle Ralf is currently in contact with other foreign packs. Apparently the same scenario is a pandemic of sort.

"What do you thinks' gonna happen?" Lily whispered.

"I don't know" I said honestly, "but I know uncle Ralf's doing his best to protect the pack." I reassured her.
I was not ignorant of the current situation that we were in, I knew that we were perhaps the last pack standing. But I couldn't tell her that.

"It's funny how everything's changing so quickly. It's like this chains of events that just keep coming and coming." Lily sighed.

"Hah, you tell me." I groaned, slowly lifting my head up to face her. "Lil, since the whole banquet thing you've become really distant. And you still haven't explained the reason why you were acting odd that day. I mean we're bestfriends, you can tell me anything without judgement." I added the last part in a hurry.

Lily turned away, her chocolate braids slightly smacking my face. "Seriously?" I muttered. She still didn't turn around, as I watched her sign once more.

"I slept with your brother."

"Lil, it's gonna be fi-What?" My eyes widened, before I could even comprehend she started sobbing, placing her hands over her eyes.
"I mean I just... I don't know. It was the heat of the moment a-and- it just happened. What if my mate doesn't want me anymore? What if he thinks I'm used, dirty, and worthless?" Her sobs grew more agitated, I placed her in a light embrace.

"And oh god, Madison..I just, I haven't gotten my period this week. What if-" she chocked. "What if I'm pregnant?" She whispered.

"And I'm sorry I didn't tell you all those weeks. It's been eating my alive, I swear. I was just...scared. You know what they do to unmated pregnant she-wolves? I'll...i'll be isolated! And my family! Dear goodness, my mother's going to kill me." She croaked.

Before she could continue any further, I held onto her shoulders, twisting her around so she could face me. "Look lil, you shouldn't jump into conclusions just yet. It could be anything, really. And I'm not mad at you, you should know that. And even so, your mate would be stupid if he rejected you for something as trivial as this." I said.

"You mean the part where I let my desires take over, or that I could be pregnant?" Lily said, wiping a tear away.

"Uh-" I muttered. "I mean, if things do go south we could always join the my-mate-is-a-douchebag club, am I right?" Lily slightly chuckled, dusting off her dress as she slowly stood up.

"Sorry about the whole drama scenario. I'm not usually this...emotional." She drifted.

"Oh, but you are." I laughed.

"Hey! It's for good reason." She countered back.

Before I could even reply, a hastily man entered the room, looking back at Lily and I. "Lily! You need to-Oh, my queen." He grumbled, praising a slight bow.

"We're called for a pack meeting, come on. It's urgent." Lily pulled me along, as we whistled to the sea of people into the podium, where Jasper stood nervously, as he clutched onto a piece of paper.

I stood next to Lily in the back where many of the packs staff, chatted in silence. "Where's the alpha?" Lily whispered.

Jasper straightened his back, as he searched through the crowd before his eyes finally landed on me. He bit his lip, a common habit he would do if he felt guilty about something. I looked up at him oddly, in which he quickly looked away.

"Settle down." He said. The whole room went silent, before he proceeded with his speech.  "You're all probably wondering why my father isn't here today delivering the news. He is, at the moment, for going alliances with foreign packs  to maintain the safety of our pack and its people. Therefor, I will be his substitute for the meanwhile. I'm here today to bring you news that you should fear no more. We have recently made peace with a prominent pack near the North border, which I'm sure you're all familiar with, the Red moon pack. They are highly skilled and knowledgable of such attacks, so I have full confidence that we can destroy this threat,  together. However, I want you all to know that this was not an easy bargain, and I'm sure this cannot be something we can just ignore, but In return we... must hand over Madison, allowing them full rights and custody." His eyes were filled with sadness, as his eyes caught mine. I could tell he saw the red that appointed his.

People gasped, as I slowly backed away. "What?" I croaked. Lily look at me worriedly, as I stumbled over, etching as far as I could. Eyes watched me; delegating my every move. Waiting for a reaction.

I couldn't handle the stares. But most importantly, I couldn't handle the relief that washed upon many of them. I felt...betrayed.

My legs thrusted out of the room, I rant out, ignoring the calls of many distinct voices. I didn't know where I was going, and frankly, I just didn't care.

My legs landed in an unfamiliar territory, near a water stream. I sat down on the cold, wet grass and just cried. No, I wasn't mad that they would trade me for protection. And no, It wasn't about the deal, in fact, it would be foolish if he rejected it.

What really hurt me was that they didn't even come and consult me about it. I'm a human being, not an object. My mind drifted back to my first encounter with him.

I bit my lip, as my quiet sobs filled the late night sky. The red moon. One of the most notorious pack of werewolf history. Why would they want me? As far as I know, my connections with the king would be of no use. I mean nothing to him. As does he.

But the most twisted part of all this, was that I would actually be willing to do anything for my pack. They were my friends, my family, my everything. And just that look on their faces when they found out, with no one objecting, made me realize one thing. I could trust no one.

Unwillingly, I stood up from the failure that was myself. Wiping away those tears, I looked back down on the calm, peaceful water the flowed through the river. It's been long since I've last seen myself. My hair was probably a few inches longer, with freckles daunting my cheeks. My swollen eyes were wide, almost too innocent of the drastic changes the unfolded before me. I was vulnerable, and that had to change. Standing up from where I first lay, I stripped off my clothes, and jumped into the river.

The cool water tingled my skin, and with a splash, I was underwater. I felt free. I was pushed upwards by the current, where I emerged once again, except this time, I was someone else.
