Percy's P.O.V.
I glanced around, but there was no food. Suddenly I heard Annabeth yelp, as mountains and mountains of steaming, delicious food appeared on all of the tables. Ron dived in immediately, filling his plate, stuffing his mouth, and earning himself a disapproving glance from Hermione. Ginny just groaned as Harry followed suit. I shrugged, ignoring Annabeth's warning stare. Might as well.
I grabbed a chicken leg and stuffed it into my mouth, laughing as Annabeth made a disgusted noise in her throat. The food was delicious and I was starving. Suddenly I felt like I had been ducked under freezing water, which wasn't usually an issue for me. I jumped, choking on my food. When I could finally breath again, I looked up, eyes watering, to see a tall, pale, luminescant figure sitting half way through the table.
'Sir Nicholas de Mimsy Porpington,' it said, holding out its hand. I took it before anyone could tell me not to, and, instead of making contact, I felt that weird freezing sensation again. I hurridley withdrew my hand and said 'Hi, I'm Percy Jackson.'
'Annabeth Chase' chimed in said girl, as she smiled politely at the figure.
'American?' asked the figure and we nodded.
'Well, I am the ghost of Gryffindor Tower. Nice to have met you.' and with this he floated off to talk to the Irish boy from before, Seamus or whatever.
I ignored Ron who was chuckling at me for some reason known best to him and turned to Hermione. 'You have ghosts here?'
She nodded and smiled, 'You get used to it.'
But this ghost had got me thinking, if people could come back...
'Don't think about it' Harry said. Images of Beckendorf waving and smiling at me faded as I took in Harry's words. He looked bitter and I couldn't help but remember all of the people around him that had died. I didn't know how he knew what I was thinking, but then again, the thought must have occured to him too at some point.
'I'm sorry' Ginny said softly, 'but only wizards and witches can come back as ghosts. And even then, sometimes, they choose to go...on.' Here she glanced at Harry, who was staring determindley at the table. I wasn't sure what Ginny meant by 'on', but I decided that now was probably not the best time to ask.
Dinner seemed to fly by, and soon the food had disappeared and Mcgonagall was standing up to make a speech.
'Hello students, as the older ones of you can see, much of the castle has been rebuilt since last year. We have tried to keep it as much the same as before, but you may notice small differences. Welcome to all our new students, I hope you enjoyed that fabulous feast, the chefs send their compliments.' I thought this was a bit of a strange comment to make, but Mcgaonagall glanced at Harry, Hermione and Ron, who all smiled, so I let it slide.
'There is a very... extensive list of banned items on Mr Filch's door, which he has asked me to remind you of. And know, your beds are waiting, but one more thing. If anyone needs to talk about anything, especially the event of last year, then you should know that your Head of House and myself would be more than happy to talk. Thank you, now off you go.'
I followed the guys out of the hall, thinking about what Mcgonagall had said. She hadn't mentioned us, so I assumed that she wanted us to keep quiet about our true identities. Wow, do I sound like batman or what?
We climbed up some stairs and I almost fell over when they started moving. Annabeth, however, started on a massive rant on how magic and architecture could be combined to the best extent possible. I was nearly asleep, and so glad when we finally stopped. I glanced around but I could see no door. In front of us was a lifesize portrait of a fat lady in a long dress. To my shock she turned to us and said, 'Password?'
Like this was completely normal, which I supposed it kind of was, Harry replied 'Gilly weed'. The portrait swung forwards and behind it was a round portal. We climbed through into the comfiest looking room I'd ever seen, nothing like our cabins at camp. There were comfy couches and armchairs everywhere and a fire was roaring in the grate. I flumped down in one of the chairs and grinned. I could be quite happy here.
