Harry's P.O.V.
The five of us moved down the cold, dank hallway. I felt Skye shiver next to me and was aware of Percy and Annabeth moving closer together. I grimaced at Ron as the stench of rotting wood hit us.
'Okay guys,' I said quietly, turning to the rest of the group. 'Stay here and I'll just go and check out the next room, so that I don't attract too much attention if there is anything there. If there's trouble, which I doubt there will be, I'll call.'
Before the others had a chance to protest, I walked away and into the next room. It was even darker and danker in here and as I walked across the room I felt something crunch beneath my feet. 'Lumos,' I whispered, directing the beam of light at the floor. I had to stifle a yell as I caught sight of a human skull, among with several other bones, not all of them human, littering the floor. With a sick feeling I turned back to the others. I reached the door just as I heard the scream. It sounded like Skye but it wasn't coming from the corridor where I had left them. Thinking fast I leapt across the room and sped out, following the sound of the scream, determined to find Skye.
Ron's P.O.V.
I groaned as Harry ran off and left us. 'He really needs to stop doing that,' I whispered to Skye, who smiled weakly.
Suddenly I heard a yell, 'Ron, Skye! Help me please!'
It was Harry's voice.
Without a second glance, Skye and I ran over to the door that Harry had gone through. 'Stay there!' I yelled at Percy and Annabeth, not waiting for a reply. When we reached the room it was empty, Harry was nowhere in sight. Two doors led out of the room. I turned to Skye, 'You take that one and I'll take the other,' I said, gesturing to the doors. She nodded, looking pale and replied, 'Yell if either of us find him.' I nodded back and ran off to look for Harry.
Percy's P.O.V.
Before we could call them back, Ron and Skye ran off after Harry. I looked over to Annabeth, shocked to see that she was deathly pale and shaking from head to foot. Suddenly a thought hit me and I looked at Annabeth, trying not to throw up. At the same time we said, 'Cyclops.'
Without thinking, we both rushed through the door, the light from the hall casting a faint shimmer over the bones littered the floor. I heard Annabeth give a sob and I grabbed her hand.
'Don't let go!' I commanded. 'if we get split up in a Cyclops' lair it could mean death.'
She gave another choking sob and gripped my hand hard. We ran through dark, dripping corridors, hearing Ron, Skye and Harry's screams echo through the house, although we couldn't be sure if they were genuine or an imitation made by the cyclops. We pushed through a door and froze. In front of us stood a huge cyclops which, upon hearing us enter the room, turned around quickly and grabbed Annabeth, ripping her from my grip. She screamed and I heard a cry of ,'Annabeth, percy, Run!'
It came from Skye, who was chained up next to Ron and Harry. Harry was staring at us with wild eyes, but Ron was unconscious, a huge bloody lump on his forehead. Still holding Annabeth, the cyclops turned to me. 'Hello little Hero,' it smiled toothily, still speaking in Ron's voice.
'Leave my friends alone!' I yelled more bravely than I felt, I mean this was one huge Cyclops. The creature laughed, hitting me with rancid breath and I cringed as the acrid smell washed over me.
'Little son of Posiedon' it rasped in its own voice. 'I would like you to meet my little friend.' It gestured to a hole in the wall and I watched it with an ever growing feeling of fear and apprehension. Out of the hole slithered something huge, green and scaly, like a giant snake.
'Cover your eyes!' Harry hollered as Skye screamed, 'Basilisk!'
I clamped my eyes shut as the cyclops laughed. 'Yes little witch. As a son of posiedon myself I have control over this creature, which is so close to the sea-serpent. Cover your eyes hero, for my little basilisk can kill you with one glance.'
'Percy!' screamed Annabeth from somewhere to my right.
'Too much noise, enough!' bellowed the cyclops. There was a dull thud and Annabeth didn't make another sound. I desperately wanted to know what had happened to her but I didn't dare open my eyes. Then the cyclops spoke in a voice that it must have picked from my memories, a voice it knew would affect me.
'Percy, I'm so proud of you. Just open your eyes and it will be over so quickly,' said my mothers voice.
The cyclops had just crossed the line. I gave a roar of rage and pulled out Riptide, but a sword would be no use if I couldn't see where I was swinging it, I could hit one of my friends by accident. So, ignoring the cyclops' teasing and jeering, I prayed to my father.
'Dad, if there was ever a time when I needed your help, well now would be it. Please dad, anything, just help me to save my friends. Please.' Nothing happened for a few minutes and I was starting to despair as I heard the monstrous beast slithering closer and closer but then I felt something land by my feet. Reaching down a cautious hand I felt something odd, almost like lots of small snakes... I risked opening my eyes for a snap second, yes it was! I was looking at the head of medusa, facing away from me, attached to the tag I had written all those years ago on my first quest. Unerneath the address, written in neat slanting cursive were the words, Return, Perseus Jackson, Cyclops Lair, London. My father's handwriting.
Suddenly I heard a rasping movement on my left, the basilisk! Before it was too late, I pulled up the head of medusa and directed it towards the noise. After a second, there was a tremendous thud, made by something large and probably made of stone, hitting the damp floor. An enraged roar from the cyclops confirmed it. I wrenched open my eyes to see the solid stone basilisk lying stretched out on the floor.
Before I could congratulate myself however, a shout from behind screamed, Percy, behind you!'
Without thinking I swung the head around and the cyclops collapsed on the floor, completely solid. Breathing heavily I turned towards my friends, throwing the head away from me. It landed next to the stone basilisk with a sickening squelch. I ran towards Harry, Hermione and Ron. I freed Hermione from the chains and was about to help Ron when Hermione pushed me away.
'I've got this,' she said in a shakey voice. 'Go find Annabeth.'
'Di Immortales!' I cursed. How could I have forgotten Annabeth? I looked around for her but the light was so dim it was almost impossible to see. I yelled to Hermione, 'A little help please, I can hardly see!'
Without answering and to my great confusion, she began rooting through Ron's pockets. After a couple of seconds, she came back up with a small sliver cigarette lighter.
'What the -' I began but then she clicked it and a small sun flew out and rose to the roof, illuminating the whole room and Annabeth's body. I ran towards her and fell down on my knees next to her. She had been knocked completely unconcious and there was a large gash on her face that was bleeding heavily. I felt for her wrist and almost cried in relief when I felt a pulse there. I was searching for some ambrosia to give her but before I could, Hermione came over and said, 'Allow me.'
She began muttering words and waving her wand. Then she said, 'Accio Dittany' and a small bottle zoomed out of her bag and into her open hand. She tipped a few drops onto Annabeth's cut and before my eyes the cut completely disappeared. Then, waving her wand over Annabeth's body, Hermione whispered, 'Ennervate.'
Annabeth slowly opened her eyes and when she saw me I watched them fill with tears.
'I'm so sorry,' she whispered. 'I should have recognised this.'
'No, it's not your fault, we should have all stuck together in the first place,' I replied firmly. 'I'm just glad that you're not hurt.'
Tears began to spill down her cheeks. 'Percy.' That was all she said but in a second I leant across, pushing Hermione out the way, and kissed Annabeth hard. I tried to show her how much I loved her in that one kiss, and could have laughed with happiness when she put her arms around my neck and kissed me back. I heard Hermione get up awkwardly and move away but I didn't care.
My Annabeth was safe.
