Skye's P.O.V.
I was finishing my packing when I heard a movement at the door. I span around expecting to see Harry or one of the others and so was shocked and pleasantly surprised when I saw that it was Nico.
'Hi' I said shyly, considering that we hadn't parted on the best of terms. Instead of answering me, he just nodded and continued to glare at the floor. We stood in awkward silence whilst I searched for something to say. However, before I could say anything he looked up and I was scared by the hatred and mistrust in his eyes. I returned his gaze in shock as he began to speak, his voice cracking with anger.
'The only reason I am coming on this quest is to save Percy's mom.' I opened my mouth to protest that she was my mum as well but he held up a condescending hand, reminding me forcefully of Severus Snape when he was in a foul mood. I bristled at the fact he had the temerity to act that way towards me but he spoke again. 'Do not expect me to seek another conversation with you. If it were not for that blasted prophecy then I would not have to endure your presence. The fact that we will be spending copious amounts of time together changes nothing. For the sake of my own sanity, leave me alone.'
He swept out of the door and I heard his heavy footsteps descend the staircase of the Big House. I sat down on my bed, my breathing shallow and my pulse racing from a mixture of shock, fear and uncontrollable anger. I realised that my hands were shaking and I clasped them in my lap. I don't know how long I sat there, but it was not long before I felt tears begin to pour down my cheeks. I made no move to wipe them off and so I sat there, trying to cry Nico away and drown my feelings for him in hot, salty tears.
Harry's P.O.V.
I stood downstairs with everyone else, a rucksack slung over my shoulder containing all the provisions I thought I would need. From the clanking sound echoing from Hermione's bag I assumed that she had cast an undetectable extension charm on it, and by the sounds of things that bag held as many books as she could possibly carry without her arms falling off. I glanced around and realised that everyone but Skye was here. I dropped my bag on the floor next to Hermione and announced, 'I'm just going to get Skye, I'l be back in a moment.'
Everyone nodded in understanding and I jogged up the stairs to Skye's room. When I got there, I knocked on the door and called, 'Skye, are you nearly ready? We need to go.'
There was no answer so I knocked again, thinking she might not have heard me. When there was still no answer, I knocked a third time and called, 'Skye, are you okay?'
When she didn't reply I began to feel the inset of panic in my gut and I pushed the door open roughly. I glanced around the room desperately and then again as though to change what I was seeing. Skye was not there. I began to panic in earnest now. Where was she? Then I remembered that I had seen Nico go upstairs ealier. I hadn't given it much thought but now I realised he must have spoken to skye. What did he say? And where was Skye now, did she do something drastic? I know how she feels about him...
I span around intending to run downstairs and confront Nico about his conversation with Skye, but before I could get out of the door, I collided with something and fell down hard. I looked up in confusion and almost laughed out loud in relief when I saw Skye looking down at me in concern. When she saw that I was alright she smiled and asked, 'What are you doing in my room?'
I grinned sheepishly and replied, 'Well everyone else is downstairs so I came up to look for you but then you didn't answer when I knocked on your door so I started to worry.'
She laughed, although her laugh sounded a bit off. I put it from my mind however when she replied, 'I was in the toilet silly.'
I smiled and grabbed her rucksack off the bed for her. 'Come on' she smiled as she took it from me. 'Lets go and get started on this quest.'
As we walked down stairs however I noticed a strange emotion come over her face and by the time we had reached the group at the bottom she had become cold and distant. I felt a horrible certainty that it was something to do with Nico. When I looked at him the anger in his eyes was afirmation enough. I made a silent vow to myself that I would help Skye, whatever it took.
'Everyone ready?' Hermione called and sounds of agreement and affirmation were returned. 'Good, hold hands and I'll apparate us all.'
The plan was to apparate near to Greyback's last known location, a warehouse on a large industrial estate just outside London. We would find a base there and then work out a plan. Which was all very well in theory. I took a deep breath and braced myself as we all span into darkness.
When I could see again we were standing outside a bordered up house on a grimy estate. I looked around and caught sight of a young child perhaps eight or nine watching us curiously. I looked around at Hermione in panic. She was also watching the small child, who did not seem at all phased that eight people had just appeared out of thin air.
He walked towards us and we all froze. He fixed us with a calculating gaze and then said, 'It's okay, my brothers were wizards too.'
We all sighed in relief and relaxed, we weren't going to have to start our quest by obliviating a muggle.
'What's your name kid?' Ron asked gently, crouching down so he was at the boy's eye-height.
Hermione gasped as he spoke, 'Anton Creevey'.
I stared at the boy in shock, and thought that he did indeed look a bit like Colin and Dennis. Now I knew what he meant by 'were', for Colin had died in the battle of Hogwarts, something that Hermione had realised before he even gave his name. I swallowed hard as another boy came round the corner, clearly looking for his brother. He stopped short when he saw who it was. Dennis Creevey was now thirteen and looked as though he had the weight of the world on his shoulders.
I looked at him and then couldn't help myself. 'I'm sorry, I'm so sorry,' I whispered as tears pooled in my eyes. I'm not sure why but I have always held myself accountable for Colin's death. I taught him in the DA and so he thought he was a match for a death eater. I should have ensured that he left Hogwarts with the others who were under age. It was my fault he was dead.
I swallowed hard again, oblivious to all but Dennis as he watched the tears leak from my eyes. Then he stepped forward and simply hugged me. The situation must have looked absurd to all the others but I didn't care.
'I forgive you, but it was never your fault. Colin always wanted to prove that he was worthy to be a wizard. He wouldn't have been able to live with himself if he hadn't fought to protect Hogwarts.' Dennis whispered back to me.
'He was worthy' I breathed. 'More worthy than any of us.'
'Thank you.' Dennis pulled away and to my surprise he was smiling through his tears. He took Anton's hand and began to lead the boy away. 'We should go. I'll see you again Harry Potter.'
I nodded and with that the two boys had disappeared around the corner. When they had gone I turned to the others and wiped my face on my sleeve. Hermione, Ron, Ginny and Skye were just as teary eyed as me, and although they couldn't have understood, the Demi-gods also appeared upset.
'Well' I said, trying to be authorative. 'This looks like as good a place as any.' I gestured to the abandoned house. 'I few of us should go in and look around whilst the others cast protective charms on the outside. Skye, Ron, Percy and Annabeth, come with me, the rest of you stay here. We will call if there is a problem.'
Everyone nodded and so the five of us stepped into the cold hallway, leaving the others' anxious faces behind us.
