I rolled over in bed as I put my pillow over my head and hit Luke in the chest.
"Mmm... Carrie... It's your turn," Luke mumbled and hit me back lightly as he moved away from me.
"No," I said from underneath the pillow... "It's yours. And I changed them when Brad woke them up. Your turn."
"Gah. Fine," Luke groaned as he rolled out of bed and padded to the corner of the room where the crib was.
I took the pillow off my face and could see Luke in the light that was coming from the bathroom as he quieted Gracie down.
"Hush little baby let's go to sleep... Daddy will buy you a jeep... Just kidding... Rockabye baby in the tree top, when the wind blows the cradle will rock," Luke sang softly and then placed a kiss on nose.
Luke double checked on Brad to make sure he was still asleep and then turned off the bathroom light. He quickly slid into the warmness of the bed and scooched over to me, wrapping his arms around my waist. "I love you baby," his scruff tickled the back of my neck.
I giggled lightly, "I love you too. Thank you for being the great father I knew you'd be..." I slowly drifted off into a dreamless sleep.
When I woke up the room was empty. The babies weren't in the room and Luke wasn't in bed. I raised an eyebrow and rolled out of bed, going straight down stairs. I nearly melted when I saw the sight.
Luke was laying on the couch, nodding off, as the babies slept with their heads on his chest. I grabbed my phone out of my PJ's pocket and quickly snapped a photo. I sat next to Luke and pulled Brad from his cheek and rested Brad on mine. I somehow fell asleep again...
This time when I woke up neither of the babies were near me and neither was Luke. I could smell something cooking in the kitchen and Luke mumbling something.
When I peeked in I could see something simmering on the stove and Luke with his back to me, feeding Gracie. "And since the day I left Milwaukee," Luke trailed off as he rocked her back and forth. "You know guys," he said to the kids as he put Gracie in her high chair. "That song really reminds me of your mommy. I used to sing that line over and over thinking about her... I know it's not about a girl... It's about alcohol but I can never stop thinking about the day I left Milwaukee."
The babies just sat there with their big brown eyes much like their fathers staring at him. "You two are just so perfect. Oh yes you are! Yes you are," Luke squatted so he was eye level with them. I smiled.
"I love you," I mentioned as I shuffled into the kitchen. I walked up to Luke and wrapped my arms around his neck, placing a sweet kiss on his lips.
"How much of that did you hear," he asked as he smiled down at me slightly. God. Those brown eyes.
"I heard all that I needed to hear," I replied and kissed him again.
"I love you so much," Luke whispered and hugged me tightly.
