When I woke up for work the next morning I was oddly extremely recharged and ready for the day ahead of me. I almost instantly jumped out of bed and hopped in the shower straight away. I got out and stared at myself in the mirror, disgusted by the pits in my cheeks from acne and the scar to the right of my right eye.Shaking my hand I pulled away from the mirror and got ready quickly. Once I looked presentable I grabbed my purse and phone, walking out the door- straight to the Country Music Hall Of Fame.
When I walked inside I was greeted by Mr. Michaels, my new boss. He had a nice warm welcoming smile playing on his face as he stuck his hand out for me to shake.
"Hello Ms. Boyd, I sure hope you got the Nashville without any troubles. It's a pleasure to meet you," he greeted giving me a firm handshake.
I returned it and shot him a smile. "It's nice to meet you Mr. Michaels. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to see what the marketing department is like here at the Hall of fame," I thanked him.
"It's our pleasure, you were one of the best candidates for the internship," he replied and motioned for me to come to his office.
I gladly followed him and sat down in a chair in front of his desk.
"Alright Ms. Boyd," he started as he closes his office door, "We already have a job set up for you. And it's actually not all for the Hall of Fame. You'll be working in the external branch, which means you'll be working with upcoming artists and be promoting, improving their image and be working to make sure they increase their market share in the country music business."
I gave him a half nod and raised an eyebrow. "Alright, that's right up my alley," I commented.
Mr. Michaels smiled at me, "That's why we decided you were perfect for the job. Now, your client has been around for a few years and has been making some pretty big strides. However he has been in a slump as of late. Here are the papers that show the decline of Twitter follower steadiness and the list of his song placements on country playlists." Mr. Michaels placed the papers in front of me. Nothing out of the normal was on the Twitter stats... But when I saw the songs that they were I nearly had a heart attack then and there.
I mentally told myself to calm down. "Alright, and Mr. Bryan is... Uh... Active in collecting and writing songs, correct," I asked coolly, trying not to let my distress show.
Mr. Michaels chuckled, "He sure is. He's in the studio more than anyone that I know in the business right now."
"Alright. Duly noted," I replied and blinked slowly before looking up from the papers to look at him.
"I've a meet for you to meet him in about an hour, after you get settled into your desk. Now follow me and I'll show you your desk and have you meet your partner, who is apart of the internal marketing here," he informed and stood up from his chair.
I nodded and followed him out of his office. Soon we got to a office area with two desks. "This is your desk," he motioned to the desk that was next to the window. "And there is your partner, Tyler Malachy."
"Tyler," Mr. Michaels started. Tyler stood up. "This is the other intern, Carrie Boyd."
"Hi, it's great to meet you," Tyler greeted and stuck out his hand. He had a boyish smile, dark short hair and was dressed in a blue dress shirt and black dress pants.
"Hello, it's great to me you too," I replied smiling back at him while shaking his hand.
"Okay, now, I'll let you get settled and have you get to know each other, I'll come and get you and direct you to where you'll be having the meeting with Mr. Bryan," Mr. Michaels informed and walked down the hall toward his office.
I sat down at my desk and looked through it, seeing everything that I'd need was already in it. "Wow, this is great. Everything I need is here," I said aloud nodding at the convenience.
"I know it's great. I was overjoyed by it as well," Tyler told me with a smile as he sat down at his desk and picked up a pencil, writing things down on a notepad.
"Where are ya from Tyler," I asked with an eyebrow raised as I opened up the laptop on my desk.
"I'm actually from Springfield which is about 45 minutes from here. I was super excited to get this internship because I've been going to the Hall Of Fame since I was like five," he informed and looked up at me, "How about you, Carrie?"
"I'm actually from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I thought it was time for a change... And I love me some country music," I joked and typed in the name and password that was on the post it note stuck on my desk.
"Hey, Carrie," Mr. Michaels said coming in before Tyler could reply, "Mr. Bryan is here for your meeting."
I nodded and let out a shaky breath. He probably doesn't even remember me.
Once Mr. Michaels and I got to the room he gave me a thumbs up and let me walk in the room myself, shutting the door behind me.
Luke was sitting there on his phone and looked up once he heard the door shut and me shuffling to my seat. He's gotten even more attractive. My goodness. Looks like that can make a woman go crazy.
"Hello Mr. Bryan, I'm Carrie Boyd. It's great to meet you and I'm excited to see what I can do to improve your market share," I greeted as I sat down across from him and gave him a half nod.
His eyes slightly opened wider, he remembered me. I swear. I decided to make it seem as if I didn't remember him. I only came here to work and make a name for myself.
"It's nice to meet you too Carrie," he swallowed hard and stuffed his phone into his pocket, sticking his hand out. I gladly shook his hand. It was big, warm and comforting. "And you don't have to call me Mr. Bryan. Just call me Luke."
I sighed, "Well alright. Let's talk about you and how to increase your popularity." His soft warm brown eyes looked back at me. I swear he's making me melt.
This is gonna be a long meeting.
