----Alexis' POV----

I saw how Derek tensened when Jennie walked in but why? No one vere adopts me so why was he so nervous or/and stiff? Maybe it was different this time..

Snapping out of my thoughts as Emily - the girl I shared a room with -, Derek and I walked out and ino the meeting area thing. Okay, I'm not technical and yes I still don't really get how this works since they kinda do this in a weird way. All of us were in the home room as the family were in Jennie's office talking about I don't know what.

After a while Jennie came out the room telling all the kids to go back to their rooms whilst us teens stayed. She looked at Derek for a bit then sighed.

"Derek, don't you have better things to be doing?" She smiled politely but he shook his head.

"Actually, no. I'm here as long as Astrid is." He stated and a couple of the others rolled their eyes. Do they remember him? Maybe. I don't know. He hasn't really talked to any of the other teenagers here.

"Well then, the Brook's family are looking to adopt a teenager so they will be looking around for a while. Answer any questions they have with respect please and just go about your everyday life. Oh, and Derek, there is a man on the phone by the name of Craig Jester? Yes I think that was it." Jennie spoke and Derek put on a pokerface and nodded, going to answer the call whilst others who recognised the name stared with open mouths. The family then came out and I noticed there was only a mum, dad and a son who looked around our age. Both adults had blonde, dry hair and drained green eyes and looked slightly overworked but happy and joyful nonetheless. Yet the teenage boy had black longish hair, sparkling blue eyes and looked nothing like the two. Was he adopted as well? I didn't realise how long I had been thinking until he came over and sat next to me.

"Hi." He said with an annoyed sigh. I looked at him and smirked.

"Bored?" I asked and he looked at me and gave me a look as if to say 'what do you think?'.

"Very. I just don't get why I'm the only one who had to come with those two," he said and I raised an eyebrow, "I was adopted a few years back but I'm the only one out of all the people they adopted that had to come. Oh and my name is Xander by the way." Xander? Strangely familiar... Oh well.

I smiled and replied, "I'm Astrid."

"Nice name," and just like that Derek popped up behind me with a smirk.

"What happened to being shy?" I quietly muttered shit under my breath and scratched behind my head.

"Um.. What happened with the call?" I asked chaning the subject. His eyes hardened.

"Just some shit head being a shit head. Who are you?" Derek asked nodding over to Xander.

"Xander Brooks," he replied but his smile had faded.

"Just great.. Another goth kid." Derek sighed. "Wait... You aren't up for adoption are you?"

"Nope." Just then the two adults he was with walked over to us and smiled politely.

"Hello there, Xander want to introduce us?" The woman spoke but Derek stood up.

"Sorry I need to go," he mumbled and then ran off. What the hell? What was that all about? I rolled my eyes and saw Xander open his mouth to reply.

"Astrid, my mum Carly and my dad Justin." He said and I smiled.

"Hi." I spoke in a shy and quiet voice. Xander seemed surprised but pretended not to notice a difference.

"Hello, want to tell us a bit about yourself?" Justin asked kindly and I nodded seeing as I pretty much couldn't say no.

"Uh.. I've been homeschooled for pretty much all my life and um, well Derek - the guy who ran off - is really the only friend I have. I got here around a month ago but I didn't go to a school and he offered to teach me. I guess that's it," I said again in a shy voice and with a small smile.

"Wow, well how would you feel about us adopting you? I mean we would really like a kid and you've already met with Xander. I'm sure you will love it and I think you are one of the nicest kids here." Carly smiled and Derek reappered.

"Thank you so much, I'd love to," I said but in all honesty - I broke. I had to leave. I couldn't do anything about it.

"What? Are you leaving?" Derek asked and truly looked heartbroken. I could only nod and Xander sighed.

"I'm sure you can come over and visit her," he said without even talking to his parents about it.

"Of course! We can even adopt you if you wish," Carly offered but he shook his head.

"I'm only here for Astrid. I already have a gaurdian. Well, here comes Jennie."

"I see you have had the pleasure of meeting Astrid and um well also meeting Derek," she chuckled and Derek smirked.

"Yes, is it alright if we can adopt her," Justin asked and Jennie nodded and motioned for all of us to go into her office which Derek followed us to.

"Derek. Why are you here?" Jennie asked with a kind but tired smile.

"I told you that I wasn't going to leave her until she has to leave and I will stick to that. Besides - you love me." That caused Jennie to laugh but she shook her head.

"I loved you like you were my own son. You were so quiet and good... I barely know you now." She said with a hint of sadness but mostly I think she was just remembering the past. We all sat down - apart from Derek who was leaning up against the back wall - and continued on. "Well you both need to sign this paper and we need to know if Astrid agrees and is mostly okay with this. Then she can pack up and we need to know where you are heading and where she will be staying. Oh and Derek,?"

"Yes?" He replied.

"Please tell your 'friends' not to call here. It is so frustrating. There is a boy by the name of Jed calling for you." My eyes widened but I quickly covered it up.

"Can I hang up?"

"Derek! Don't be rude, if someone calls for you, you answer!" He sighed and went to the phone.

"Hello?... Yeah I know.. What?.. No.. Yeah I still hate you.. I haven't been there since you know what.. Just leave me alone.. What the hell do you think?! That I'd be fine with what has happened?!? Just leave me the hell alone.." And with that he hung up. The whole room was silent. "Next time I'm hanging up before the talk." He shot a glare at Jennie but she just rolled her eyes and gave a paper to Carly and Justin. They read and signed it before giving it back to her and Jennie looked at me.

"You ok with this?" I nodded and gave her a soft smile and she smiled back. "Well I guess that'll be all. Have a great time and Derek, stay out of trouble." She smiled at us and we went outside the office.
