"Hey. Emil?" You called from the kitchen.

'Yeah?"

"Where's your sugar?"

"Top left cupboard,"

You reached up and opened the cupboard, standing on your tip-toes to reach. A frown appeared on your face as you realized that you were so short, you couldn't see it.

"Hey, Emil? I can't reach it!" There was a sound of footsteps, gradually coming closer. Iceland, also known as Emil Steilsson, appeared.

'Here, let me help,"

He reached up, and, after moving around a few things, handed you a box labeled "Sugar"

"Thanks!" You grinned at him. He smiled shyly back, turning a little pink. Oh, how he loved your smile.

"No problem," He replied, returning to the dining room to continue decorating cookies.

You smiled softly at his turned back. No-one would guess that you had a major crush on him, you masked it so well with a close friendship. You added a cup of sugar to your cookies, then blended the dough well. You hummed along to the Christmas carols that were playing softly as you worked, adding the rest of the ingredients to the dough. Still humming, you rolled the dough into balls and onto a waiting baking pan. After popping them into the oven, you started cleaning up the floury mess on the counter tops. Might as well clean while wait- Besides, you knew Emil liked his kitchen nice and clean.

Bing! The timer went off for your cookies; you tugged on oven mitts, and hurried to get them out. After setting them on a waiting hot-pad, you tossed the oven mitts back onto the counter top. You smiled in satisfaction. 50 perfectly round sugar cookies! You sighed, closing your eyes and sitting down to rest and let them cool. You breathed in deeply, sighing again, but out of happiness this time, not exhaustion. The cookies smelt so good! A sudden noise interrupted you from your thoughts. Emil's phone was ringing. You looked around the kitchen, quickly spotting his phone.

"I can get it!" You called to him cheerfully.

"No, wait-!"

Too late. "Hello?" You answered the phone cheerfully.

"Hello, Emil?" A female voice purred at the other end. You froze, a twisting feeling in your heart. Turning slowly, you saw Emil standing in the doorway, a look of horror on his face. "I-It's for you," You whispered, voice already choked with tears, as you stepped forwards and handed him the phone. Grabbing your coat, you started heading for the door.

"I-I should go," You continued.

"No, wait, I can explain!" His voice was drowned out by the sound of you slamming the door shut. Hot tears streamed down your cheeks, the cold already biting at your nose. Your teeth chattered as you fought against the wind. Something suddenly grabbed your wrist. With a strangled cry, you wrenched your hand away, whirling around. Someone, or something heavy landed on you. Uttering a scream, you squeezed your eyes shut.

"Are you ok?!" A terrified voice asked, warm breath warming your face.

"E-Emil?" You stammered, opening your eyes. Sure enough, his face was just centimeters from your's. You were suddenly very glad for the cold and the way it made your cheeks red- it was currently hiding your blush.

He was looking down at you with a look of sadness and pain.

"B-But... what about the phone call?" You asked reluctantly, averting your gaze from his.

"I hung up," He answered simply. What? For some reason, this answer made you feel a rush of relief and satisfaction.

"Why?"

" 'Cause I don't feel the same about her," He murmured, leaning in a little closer. You could feel your heart pounding through your parka. There was a tingling feeling all the way from your toes up to your cheeks.

"B-But, why not?"

"Because I already feel that way about you."

You both knew it was coming, you knew it very well. The kiss. He leaned in just a little closer, and your lips connected. Butterflies erupted in your stomach. A feeling of love, passion and hope flooded in your veins. Nothing even mattered any more. Not the fact that his legs were tangled with yours, not the phone call, not even the blizzard that raged around them. He finally parted, struggling to his feet. He offered his hand to you, which you gladly accepted. After struggling to your feet in the deep snow, he helped you back inside of his warm house.

About a half an hour later, the cookies were finished, and you were stirring a small pot of hot chocolate. A pair of arms wrapped around your wasit- you giggled lightly, turning pink. After you poured two mugs of hot chocolate, and he prepared a small plate of cookies, the tow of you made your way to the living room, setting the mugs and plate down on the coffee table.

"Emil?"
"Hmm?"

"What was the phone call about, anyways?" A pause.

"She wanted to know if I wanted to spend the night cuddling by a fire, eating cookies, and drinking hot chocolate."

You felt your heart sink a little. "And... do you?"

"Yup." He replied, sitting down on the couch. But before you could reply, he continued.

"I do want to spend my evening like that. But not with her," He reached up, taking your hands in his.

"With you." He finished, pulling you down onto the couch to sit next to him. A warm, fuzzy feeling tingled deep within you. Warmer than the fire that roared in the fireplace in front of the two of you, fuzzier than the socks on your feet. A smile tugged at the corners of your lips, as you snuggled next to him. Outside, it gradually got darker, and despite the fact that the snow never stopped swirling down, the two of you were warm, snuggled together under a fleece blanket.
