"And I'm feeelinngggg goooooodddddddd." Harper and I sang dramatically, holding spatulas as microphones.
"Thank you, thank you very much!" I giggled, bowing.
"Goodnight LONDON!!!" Harper shouted, spinning in a circle and bowing dramatically. We both burst out laughing, and I returned to scrubbing the counters while Harper swept. On Wednesdays the bakery closes at noon, so we were just finishing cleaning up before closing time. I finished wiping down the bench and began loading the leftover cupcakes into the fridge, where we kept the not-fresh cupcakes until Friday, when we gave them to a nearby children's shelter.
"Want a cupcake?" I called after Harper.
"Oh, red velvet please!" She called back. I picked out a red velvet and a lemon for myself, handing the bright red one to Harper as I headed out front. She finished sweeping before devouring her cupcake, it's a wonder how she's so thin.
"Okay, I'm done. Are the display cases turned off?" Harper asked, grabbing another red velvet cupcake and licking the frosting off. Only three people had come in today, so we had about a dozen of each flavour left. It was a shame that these things happened sometimes, though the shelter kids probably didn't mind.
"Yes ma'am." I replied in an American accent.
"So tell me about this boy you were with last night." Harper asked. I opened my mouth and almost told her it was my fake boyfriend before stopping myself.
"His name is James Mcvey." I smiled faintly. Harper made a loud gagging noise and spit her cupcake out into her hand.
"James Mcvey, the gorgeous guitarist in The Vamps?" She asked incredulously. I shrugged.
"If that's what you call him." I giggled. Harper looked at me like I was crazy.
"Your boy, this boy you're hanging out with is famous. Elizabeth, as jealous as I am right now, I'm about to say something and I'm not just saying it because I'm jealous. I want you to be careful. He's got thousands of girls falling for him, and I don't want you to get hurt." Harper said gently. I giggled and smiled thankfully at her.
"And I'm thankful that you care for me so much, Harp. But I can take care of myself. Just because he can have every girl doesn't mean he wants them. He's a genuinely great guy, and I know he won't hurt me. But I will still be careful, just for you." I added, and Harper smiled.
"And on that note, I need to go. James is picking me up at one." I grinned, hopping off the bench and taking off my apron, hanging it up.
"Where are you going?" Harper asked curiously. I smiled brightly at her, feeling slightly excited.
"I'm going to the studio with him and the boys." I said excitedly. An idea struck me and I held up one finger for Harper, telling her to wait. I rushed to the back, grabbing three boxes and loading a dozen of each flavour into each box, one of red velvet, one of Dutch chocolate fudge, and one of lemon, deciding not to bother with the vanilla custard because they're messy.
"Good idea! We had a ton of extras today, didn't we?" Harper said, smiling when she saw me with the boxes. I nodded, carrying them all to the door. Luckily they weren't deluxe cupcakes, just standards, so the boxes were neither large nor heavy.
"Well, I need to go freshen up! Bye, love you Harp." I called, backing out the door.
"Bye, see you tomorrow!" She waved. I headed to my car, putting the boxes in the passenger side and climbing in before driving back to my flat, taking the lift after waving to Andrew the doorman, and quickly unlocking my door. I slid the cupcakes onto the bench in the kitchen then rushed off to the loo.
