The drive to California only took three days. I would've liked it to be a little longer but I was finally happy to be in the state. From what I've seen so far, it's a beautiful place.
We're about twenty minutes from San Diego and I'm beyond excited. And, by the looks of it, so is Vic. He's been going about how he's going to surprise his two best friends and that he's going to take me to all the best places in the area.
Hearing him speak about something so passionately makes me really happy. It's very rare that I ever see him talk like this. The last time, I think, was at the Green Day concert back in February.
"I'm sorry if I'm being annoying. I'm just so happy to be back here." Vic says, smiling from ear to ear.
"No need to be sorry." I tell him.
"Okay," He says, "Do you mind if we see my friends before we go to the hotel? I just really want to see them. It's been almost a year." He asks.
"We can do that." I tell him, looking out the window. "Do you ever wish you never moved to Michigan?" I ask him.
"Sometimes, but then I remember, if I never did, I would've never met the love of my life." He says, flashing me a quick smile.
"You're sweet." I tell him, leaning over and pecking his cheek. "What're your friends' names?" I ask him.
"Jaime and Tony. They both have a few tattoos but Jaime has darker hair so you'll be able to tell them apart just fine." He tells me.
"Alright." I tell him.
The drive to one of his friends' house was kind of quick. Probably because he was going over the speed limit.
Vic parked in front of a decent sized house and almost ran to the front door but I told him to slow down since I wasn't allowed and couldn't move very fast.
We walk to the front door and Vic knocks on the door. He was swinging his hands and tapping his foot in anticipation.
"Vic, seriously, calm down." I tell him, laughing slightly.
"I can't help it. I've missed these guys so much." He tells me. Did they live together? I'll probably find out more later.
I couldn't answer him because the door was opening very slowly.
"Can I help you?" I hear a feminine voice ask from behind the door.
"Jane?" Vic asks the lady.
"Vic?" She asks, "Is that you?" The doors opens more to reveal a taller lady, taller than my mom anyway. "Oh my god." She whispers, pulling Vic into a tight hug.
"I've miss you guys." Vic tells her, hugging her back.
"We've missed you too." She says, pulling away then looking at me. "Who's this?" She asks.
"This is my boyfriend Kellin." He tells her, smiling at me.
"Hi, it's nice to meet you." I tell her, waving slightly.
"Hello," She says back then turns her attention back to Vic. "Jaime and Tony are down in the basement. You remember your way around?" She asks him.
"I don't think I could ever forget." He tells her.
We walk into the house and I take in my surroundings. It's definitely a family environment. There were what looks to be family pictures lining the hallway. The house was kind of unorganized but not enough for it to be messy and cluttered.
I follow Vic to a door in the back of the hallway.
"Are you ready my two best friends?" He asks me and I nod in response. Vic smiles and puts his finger to his lips, indicating that he wants me to be quiet.
He slowly creeps the door open and we both slowly walk down the stairs. You can hear two, maybe three, voices from downstairs. There was also music playing so they couldn't hear our footsteps/
When we get to the point of the stairs where you can see into the room, there were two boys sitting on the couch, playing video games and bickering back and forth.
Vic leans down and picks up a random shoe and threw it at them. The shoe hits the one with spiky hair, I'm guessing that's Jaime, and he jumps off the couch.
"What the f-" He stops when he turns around and sees the two of us standing there. "Vic?" He shouts, causing the other guy, probably Tony, to snap his head in our direction.
"Surprise." He says with a big smile. One second Vic was standing beside me and the next he was being pulled into a hug by Tony and Jaime.
"What the fuck are you doing here? I thought you weren't going to come back until August?" Jaime asks him.
"I wasn't but Kellin wanted to see my home town so we came right after graduation." Vic explains to them.
"So, you're the famous Kellin that stole Vic's heart?" Tony asks me.
"That's me." I tell them.
"Nice to meet you, dude." He says, patting my back. "I'm Tony and that's Jaime, my foster brother." He introduces. Oh, so they live together.
I'm super thankful that they haven't said anything about my cancer. Usually, when someone sees the tubes, it's the first thing they ask me. I think it is super disrespectful. I know people have questions but it's never okay just to be so blunt about it.
"We can't stay very long today. We still have to go to the hotel we're staying in." Vic tells the guys.
"The hell you are. You're gonna stay here in the guest room." Jaime states.
"Hime, it's okay. We'll just be fifteen minutes up the road." Vic tells them.
"No, you're staying here. I'll have my mom set up the room for you." He says, not letting Vic argue because he was already going up the stairs. Vic chuckles lightly and smiles.
"It hasn't changed much here, I see." Vic says, looking around the room. I still haven't moved from my spot, though.
"Nope, I still think the hole you and Mike left is still there too." Tony says, walking over to a blanket that was hanging on the wall and looked behind it. "Yep, still here." He clarifies.
"Mom said it's perfectly fine that you two stay here." Jaime says when he comes bounding back down the stairs.
"Alright, fine. I missed you guys anyways." Vic says.
For the rest of that day, which wasn't very long, we sat in their basement and I let Vic catch up with his best friends.
