Chapter Four
Before I can call Justin again, Mary ends up calling me. I answer reluctantly.
"Hey!" she says in the cheeriest tone I've ever heard.
"Um, hey. Mary," I say softly.
"Are you okay, sweetie?" she asks, still in a cheery pitch.
"I'm fine. What is it?" I ask, trying my hardest to dodge any more questions.
"The party tonight. I need a ride. Instead of taking away my curfew, my mom took away my car, so I'm screwed right now unless I can get a ride. You up for it?" she requests.
Oh. Yeah. There's a party tonight.
"Um. I'm not really up for it tonight, Mary," I say, trying my hardest to keep my voice from breaking.
"Oh God, please! You can just drop me off! I'm sure I'll find a ride home! Please?" she begs.
I sigh and look over at my clock. If I would pick her up and drop her off at the party, I'd have to leave now.
"Yeah. Whatever," I groan and get up, grabbing my jacket from off my ripped and worn bean bag.
She squeals from the other end and says, "Oh my God, Angel. You're a frickin' life saver. I love you!"
Mary hangs up before I can say 'You're welcome' or change my mind.
I sigh and grab my keys from my nightstand, trotting out the front door towards my old run down car.
