Chapter Eleven

The rest of my day resolves to be very uneventful, so when I get in my car to head to the high school to see Adam at 10, I'm actually kind of excited.

My mom texted me that they'd be back in around 30 minutes because they stopped somewhere to eat and I told her not to worry because I'd be out and about.

The ride there was silent. No radio. No phone calls. No crying. Sometimes the sound of silence was louder than anything else.

Adam greets me at the entrance of the school with a fairly attractive guy I had never heard of and a decently pretty girl with dark brown hair pulled back in a ponytail whom I had never heard of either.

"Hey," I say, smiling at the new group of people.

"Hey, Angel," Adam says, opening my car door for me. I smile and step out of my car, not quite as elegant as I'd like to have.

Adam closes my door behind me and I follow him towards the two other students.

"So, this is Tanya," he says, pointing at the only girl besides me, "She's a sophomore, but she looks like a freshman."

Tanya laughs and punches Adam playfully. It's not until then that I notice her lack of height. I'd be surprised if she had hit five feet yet.

Adam laughs and points towards the other boy in the group.

"And this is Danny. He's a senior," Adam says.

Danny smiles and shakes my hand. "Don't get too excited, sweetie. I'm gay."

I laugh and nod. "Okay, I'll keep that in mind," I respond.

He laughs and nods back at me. "I like her," he says to Adam.

Adam laughs and scratches the back of his neck as he introduces me.

"And this is Angel. She's a junior, like me. We have our first hour together."

I smile at everyone and wave. "So what do we do here?"

Danny takes my hand and leads me into the school silently. I cast a concerned look towards Adam, who just shrugs and smiles.

We walk through the halls and towards the football field. Finally, Danny lets go of my hand as we step onto the field.

"What the hell? It's freezing out," I snap, glaring at Adam.

"It's Michigan. Get used to it," Tanya smirks, heading towards the bleachers across the field.

Danny laughs and pushes back his dark hair lightly.

"We like to come here and look at the stars. It's really actually pretty lame if you think about it, but it's pretty cool while you're doing it." he explains.

I nod and look at him, confused. "Why haven't I heard of you before?"

"I'm not exactly popular," he says, laughing a little.

"I'd think you'd be. You're very attractive and usually, when guys come out, the news is all over the place." I say.

"Well, he hasn't exactly come out yet," Adam says.

Before I can ask any more questions, Tanya yells from the bleachers. I can't make out what she says, but it seems to make the guys move, so I just follow them.
