Chapter Twenty-One
I smile at Lexis as I sit next to her at lunch. She was sitting alone and really looked like she needed a friend.
"What do you want?" she snaps.
I sigh and hold back any harsh words that pop into my mind about her. It would only make things worse.
"So, I get the feeling you found out about me and Justin," I say softly, looking down at my lunch.
"It was in his suicide note. God! I had to find out in a suicide note that he had cheated on me! Do you know how much that sucks? And to have you talking to me right now sucks, too," she says, not loud enough to be considered yelling, but not quiet enough to be considered normal talking. Some heads turn towards us, but quickly disregard it.
"I'm sorry. I really am. I had liked Justin. A lot. And the only reason he kissed me was because he was drunk," I explain, trying to calm her down by making eye contact. With the intensity in her eyes, I quickly flinch away.
"Was he drunk when he told you he loved you? No. Completely sober," she snaps.
"The first time he said it, he was drunk. And you know how drinking messes with your head. Him getting me, well that was him being lucky, but him getting you? Well, that was him getting a miracle." I say.
She sighs and I see tears welling up in the corners of her eyes.
"Thank you. I really mean it and I shouldn't be forgiving you because what you and Justin did really sucked, but you just said all the right words and God. I shouldn't be forgiving you, but I am." she sighs.
I smile in relief.
"Now, I'd really like it if you sat with me today. Please." she says awkwardly.
I laugh and nod.
"Okay. It's my pleasure." I reply.
{Oh gosh, really short chapter. So sorry. The book is coming near an end if you couldn't tell (just a few more chapters to go) and isn't much of a book, but really a shortish story...I guess? It just encourages you to be like Angel in the end, I guess, and help everyone in the end from doing anything they regret. "Be the change you want to see in the world." I love you all.
