Chapter Seventeen
I smile at Adam as he enters the coffee shop again. I quickly wave goodbye towards my replacement and head out the door with him.
"So, what are we doing?" I ask.
"How about some ice cream?" he suggests.
I look off towards mine and Justin's ice cream place and feel the tears stinging the corners of my eyes suddenly. The sadness was coming in waves now, but it was one of those waves that was so big, you couldn't help but just let yourself be enveloped by it and pray not to be pulled out too far away from shore. It hurt, but it wasn't unexpected, which was better than how it was at the beginning, where I would have a sudden thought of him and just feel like dying inside a little. Adam was really helping. I don't think I liked him like that, though. He's a cute guy and all, but Adam wasn't my type.
"Or we can just go to the park," he suggests instead.
I take a deep, shaky breath. "Uh, yeah. I'd like that."
He smiles and heads of towards the park, assuming I'll just follow. Being the person I am, I do follow him obediently.
When we reach the park, he just sits on a bench, overlooking the small pond filled with geese and fish. I sit next to him and smile over at him.
He sighs and scratches behind his neck like he usually does. "I used to come here with Tanya a lot," he says.
"Do you miss her?" I ask.
"Surprisingly, I kind of do. We were so in love that the fighting didn't even matter, but at the same time, it was really annoying," he admits, not hesitating for a second.
"You just need to find someone like her," I say softly, becoming really interested in my thumbs all of a sudden.
"Yeah. I guess."
I feel his eyes on me, but I don't look up.
"I guess I already found her," he says.
I sigh and can't help but roll my eyes a little.
"What?" he asks.
I look up at him angrily and groan.
"Seriously? The guy who told me he loved me and I loved back just killed himself. You expect me to get over him like that?" I snap.
"No. I don't expect you to get over him that quickly, but I do expect you to at least just try." he argues back, "He's never coming back, Angel. It sucks, but he's not and you just need to deal with that."
I laugh in disbelief and stand up from the bench.
"You're unbelievable. I can't believe I even considered falling for you," I snap, pausing to hear what he'll say next.
He falls silent and shakes his head a little. "I'm sorry," he finally manages to say.
I scoff and stomp off, towards my car that was waiting for me at the coffee shop.
