Road Trip

I woke up later that day around three in the afternoon in the passenger seat of Daniel's truck while he was driving. "Morning sleeping beauty." He said smiling while I woke up. I at up in the laud back seat yawning. When i looked out the window we were driving down a small highway with trees and grasslands lining either side of the road. "Where are we?" I asked looking over at him. As we entered a small, the name of which i didn't catch, he pulled into a quiet gas station with Raphael's jeep behind us. "We are on a highway on our way to the place that we bought. After the incident this morning it wasn't safe to stay there another night." We parked and got out, Raphael walking over to me. "Hey how are you feeling?" He asked as we walked inside. I didn't have time to answer before my stomach started growling loud enough for all of us for us to hear. We all burst out laughing. "Why don't you hit the bathroom, fix your hair, and we will buy some lunch." I gave him a confused look as I ran my fingers through the back of my hair. I didn't get very far before I reached a large frizzy nest of knots. Embarrassed I made my way to the small gas station bathroom. I went to the bathroom before working on detangling the the knots in my hair. Five minutes later I ran my hands for the last time through my now silky hair and exited the bathroom. As soon as I came out a little girl around the age of seven went running inside. A woman in her twenties gave me an apologetic nod and followed her daughter inside the bathroom. i decided to stretch my legs and waste some time so i started wandering around the gas station, looking at all the knick knacks and jewelry they were selling. I couldn't help but get drawn into the beauty of some of the necklaces. There was one on a small silver chain with a black teardrop pendant on it. It looked so sleek and simple that i couldn't help but want it. I picked it up smiling to myself when the same little girl that had passed me on the way out the bathroom came running up to me with a cute and goofy smile on her face. I smiled down at her as she smiled up at me. "You're really pretty!" She said in a cute little voice. I couldn't help but smile bigger. "Thank you. And so are you. You are much prettier than i am." That caused her to giggle and smile even more. "Where is your mommy?" I asked kneeling down in front of her. "She's buying me ice cream!" She was so cute. I was about to say something when her mother came over to us holding a bag. "Come on Liliana it's time to go. Say goodbye to the nice lady." The little girl gave me a short hug then ran off with her mother after saying goodbye. I stood up and walked over to the cashier. I quickly paid for the necklace and smiled to myself as I made my way back out to the truck. The boys were both leaning against the truck munching on a bag of chips and a sandwich. "What took you so long?" Raphael asked as i walked towards the truck. "I wanted to stretch my legs." I told him. Raphael handed me a sandwich and a bottle of Dr. Pepper. I opened the passenger door and sat down as I quietly ate. When all of us were finished we hopped back into our vehicles and were on the road again to our new home. To end the silence between us I turned on the radio and searched until I found a song I loved and started singing along to it, Make A Move by Icon For Hire. I watched Daniel smile as he listened to me happily sing along to the song. At the song ended I sat there happy and content with my performance. "So how come i have never heard you sing until now? You have an amazing and beautiful voice." A light blush made it's way across my cheeks at his compliment. "Thanks but i don't really like to sing in front of others a lot." I was very shy and self conscious of my voice. "Well you should, you sound amazing. Wait so does that mean that you feel comfortable around me?" He asked as an even bigger smile played on his lips. "I guess it does." I said smiling back. "Tell me about yourself." I told him as i turned so i was sitting sideways in my seat, my back to the window and facing him. The sun warmed up the skin on my back and felt nice. "Well what would you like to know about me?" He asked, a smile still playing on his lips. "Anything, everything. I guess i'm just curious." I took a drink of my soda while I watched him drive. "Well it might be easier to show you than it would be to tell you in that case then." I gave him a confused look as he told me that. Show me? What does he mean by that? "With Raphael you would be able to see his memories by touching his wings, if he allowed it and opened himself up to you that is. But since i don't have wings you'll have to settle for my hand." He held his hand out to me, laying it across the console between us. I slowly held my hand out my own hand and placed it in his warm hand. He closed his hand around mine and smiles. "Now think about whatever you would like to see and know about me." I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. I finally decided on what i wanted to see and that's when a light flashed in front of my eyes before everything went dark.
