Dark Memory

The house was warm and quiet except for the sound coming from the TV as Lion King played quietly. My mother and father sat on either side of my sleeping small form. I was about seven in this memory. I had fallen asleep about halfway through the movie. Life had seemed perfect and peaceful. But of course all good things must come to an end. I was asleep nuzzled up against my mothers side when all of a sudden there was a loud crashing noise from outside. The noise startled me awake to see my mothers frightened eyes looking down at me, my father gone. She scooped me up into her arms and took me to my room. In the dark room she opened a hidden door that i had never noticed before in the wall beside my bed. Inside was a bunch of pillows and blankets, the small room was the size of my closet. She sat me down in the middle of the blankets and pillows, which i sunk comfortably into. "Stay silent until me, your father, or your grandmother comes to get you, alright sweetie?" She asked me softly while standing in the small doorway. I looked up at her and nodded my little head. She leaned down and kissed my forehead before closing the hidden door and leaving me quietly in the pitch black darkness. I huddled myself in the blankets and the pillows which gave me some comfort. I stayed there for what was probably a couple of hours in silence before i heard the creak of the door in front of me as it started to open.  Standing in the doorway stood my grandmothers familiar face, her long silver hair and dark chocolate brown eyes. She picked me up in her arms and i could see her puffy red face with tears streaking down her cheeks. She clung to me tightly as i began to cry with her although i wasn't sure why i was crying. From that day forward i never saw my parents again and i lived with my grandmother until i was out of high school. I met Angie in high school and we had been best friends ever since ever since so we got a place together after high school. My grandmother never actually told me what happened to my parents but i knew that they were gone for good. Daniel's voice calling my name broke me out of the flashback. When i was fully back to reality i realized i had tears running down my cheeks and that Daniels hand was holding mine protectively. By the look on his face i knew that he someone had seen into my memory with me. "Kat i am so sorry. You never even actually found out what happened." My eyes showed such vehemence as the memory continued to play over and over in my head. "My grandmother knew something, she just wouldn't tell me." And that's when the thought hit me. I needed to know, I needed to call my grandmother and get her to tell me what she knows about what happened that night. Daniel handed me my phone without question as to why when i asked. Hesitantly i clicked on my grandmothers contact and listened to the ringing of the machine. After a few more rings i heard her familiar voice say hello. "Hi grandma. I have a question." i looked over at Daniel for comfort. "Of course sweetheart what is it?" I took a deep breath to steady myself before asking the question. "What happened to my parents that night? I mean what really happened?" There was a long pause before my grandmothers steady voice said the worst thing that i could have wanted to hear right now. "I knew that someday you would come asking me for answers and i hoped i would have an answer for you. But the thing is that i don't know. The people that your parents were working for wouldn't tell anyone but what i can tell you is that their deaths were no accident and that is wasn't done by anything human." My heart sunk in my chest hearing all of this. Who were my parents working for? "Ask one of those boys with you. The one with the white wings will know more than me." And with that i heard the click of disconnection. Raphael? How would he know? Just as the thought crossed my mind Raphael walked into my room but stopped when he saw the look on me and Daniels face. "What's wrong?" He asked walking over to me with a worried look on his face. "I'm gonna ask you a question and i want the truth." He nodded quickly, "Of course." I took another deep breath as i looked up at him. "What happened to my parents?" He looked back at me with an expression of pure shock and then a look of sadness replaced it. He sat down on the side of me where Daniel wasn't and let out a heavy sigh. "Your parents were working for the angels, or at least your father was. They knew about your destiny and thought being on our side would help sway your decision. Their job was to help us hunt down rogue angels and demons. That night a group of demons escaped from prison and found out where your parents lived, seeing as they were the ones who put them away. Our backup team was too late getting there to save your parents but there were able to kill the demons responsible. Your grandmother showed up as they were finishing up cleaning the scene and said her daughter had texted her saying that if she didn't hear from them in an hour to come and retrieve you from the hidden closet. Our team didn't know about the hidden closet so we had thought that you had been taken or killed. We decided it was best that you didn't know so it wouldn't sway you towards one side.
