Chapter 28

Helen:

In the restroom, I needed to fix my eye makeup since it was smearing a bit. But as I was applying my mascara, Hera and her crew entered.

"Oh look" Hera smirked "It's Nerdy McVirgin."

I tried to ignore her as I continued putting on my mascara. But when I looked into the mirror, I saw that Selene wasn't laughing, instead she was looking down with a sad look on her face. Okay, something doesn't seem right.

"You know" Hera said "I didn't think you'd show up tonight, shouldn't you be moaning in bed over your heartbreak on Achilles?"

I continued to ignore her as I put my mascara away.

"Oh so you're giving me the silent treatment huh?" she continued "Well, go ahead and go whatever you want. You might as well go home since no one's gonna ask you to dance."

I can feel my blood boil with anger as I clenched my fists.

"Oo she's getting mad now" Hera smirked "What are you gonna do about? Nothing? Yeah I guess so. So you might as well go home and start planning your suicide, because you don't belong here."

Oh that was it, I couldn't take it anymore. My blood level has reached it's highest point, I was going to explode.

"That's it!" I yelled at her which made her and her crew jump "I am so done with you! You've crossed the line Hera! I have had enough of your bitchiness!"

Damn, I was really exploding, and by the looks of their shocked face, they were really surprised.

"What the hell is your problem with me?!" I continued "What did I do to you?! Why me?! Why me huh?! Cause I have never done anything to you! What is the matter with you Hera?! You don't run the school you know! Not everything is controlled by you! So what's your problem huh?! What is it?! What did I do to you?!"

At that point I can feel my face heating up, it felt really good to get that out. But when I looked at Hera, I saw that she didn't seem shocked anymore, instead she had a sad look on her face.

"Hera?" I said with a bit of a worried look.

"You want the truth" she frowned "It's not you, but who you remind me of. You remind me of a friend I had back in middle school. When I met her, she was just like you, shy, a loner, nerdy, she even loved playing the violin. She didn't have any friends so I became her friend, and soon we became the best of friends. But then one day, she became friends with this group of girls, and she started to change. She became more of a bitch than of a friend. She stopped being my friend and she went with the group of girls.

I've never been so hurt in my life. My best friend ditching me for a group of bitches. She became so mean to me, she would gossip about me, spread rumors about me. I couldn't believe she would do that to me. She went from the shy girl next door to the biggest slut in school."

All of a sudden I saw Hera's eyes began to water.

"But then one day" she continued with a sniff "I tried to talk to her, but we just had this big fight and she shoved me off. I didn't want to back down so I planned to go over to her house after school to talk some more. But when I got there and knocked on her door, there was no answer, I kept knocking but she wouldn't answer. So I opened the door, and there she was, lying on the floor with a haft empty bottle of pills in her hand. I immediately called 911, but by the time they got her to the hospital, it was too late."

At that point she broke into tears. I couldn't believe what I just heard, after all these years, I finally know why Hera is who she is. I even noticed that Athena and Selene stood there with sad looks as they watched their friend cry.

"Hera" I said with shock "I had no idea."

"Well now you know" she sniffed as she continued to cry.

As she continued to cry, Athena held up her phone to me.

"This was her" she said as I looked at the photo of Hera with who appeared to be her old friend.

"Wait" my eyes widen "Was that Phoebe?"

"Yeah" Athena said sadly.

"Oh my God" I gasped "I had her in my English class in 6th grade."

"That was the grade I met her" Hera cried.

I couldn't believe that Hera was friends with Phoebe. I even remember the day when they announced that she was dead, I didn't really know her that well, but I did feel sad. And now I feel worse since I know the whole truth.

"I miss her so much" Hera sobbed "Why did she had to do that?! Just why?!"

Poor Hera, I couldn't stand seeing her like this. And even though she's been a bitch to me for the past 4 years, I pulled her into a hug and started to comfort her.

"I'm so sorry" I sniffed as I felt my eyes began to water.

I knew that Hera needed this, cause even though she lost a friend, she didn't loose her mother like me. When we pulled away, Hera's eyes were full of tears as I held onto her hands.

"Hey" I said "I know that we've never gotten along, but if you ever need to talk, you can talk to me."

"Why are you being nice to me?" she asked with a sniff.

"Because what you're feeling right now, in nothing compared to what I felt when I lost someone I loved. But I can feel your pain, and the best way to heal that pain is to talk it out."

Hera just gave another sniff as she wiped her tears away.

"Hey Helen" Selene suddenly said "I'm sorry about your mom?"

"What?"

"Achilles told us" she said sadly.

He did? Why didn't he tell me that?

"Oh" I said sadly.

"We had no idea" Athena added with a sad look.

"It's okay" I said.

I gotta say, now that I know Hera's background, I feel a bit better. Because I know that her bullying on me has finally ended.
