*Aaron's POV*
I tugged on Lilith's arm, urging her to move faster. I didn't know what was after us, but something was.
"Daddy why are we running?" She asked. I looked down at her, sighed, "We are just in a rush. No need to worry. Do you want me to carry you though?"
She nodded. I picked her up and put her on my shoulders. Lilith yawned. "Stay awake as long as you can." I said.
"Okay. I'll try." I picked up the pace. I was going to protect Lilith. She is all I have left.
I found at tree that I could climb. "Hang on tight." I said. Lilith squeezed my shoulders as I pushed myself up the tree.
I found a branch think enough to hold us both. I leaned back, putting Lilith in my lap.
"Daddy?" She whispered. "Yes baby girl?"
"Will I ever see mommy again? You told me how wonderful she was and that you love her with all your heart, but we never go see her."
I turned Lilith to face me. Her dirty blond hair all in knots from running. I ran a hand through her hair. I was hoping to avoid this question for a very long time.
"Are you going to answer me Daddy?" I cleared my throat, "Mommy and I have some.... issues going on at the moment. You might meet her some day." I could feel the tears in my eyes, threatening to come out. She looked down, "Oh." Was all she said.
Then the tears started to pour out. I could've filled a river with all the tears.
"It's everything okay?" She asked. I wasn't going to lie to her. "No sweety. I'm hurt... I want to see mommy, but she won't want to see me." I balled as Lilith attempted to comfort me.
"Let's go back then Daddy. You won't know until you try." She patted my head, smiling. I sniffled. "When did you become so big?" I asked.
"I'm not that big I'm only three." She stuck up three fingers. I laughed. Aphmau would love her.
"You're right Lilith. We are going to head back to Phoniex Drop and find Mommy." She clapped, "Yay! Mommy here we come!"
I put her on my back again and climbed down the tree. She slid off my back onto the ground.
"You ready to go?" I asked. She smiled all giddy like. "Yep I am!"
"Then let's go!"
We started to run, laughing the whole way. We stopped running when I hit something or someone.
The person turned around. "Watch where you're go-" She stopped. "Hmm you're quiet a handsome creature."
"Uhh who are you."
"Me? Oh I'm Michi." She smiled, putting her hand out for me to shake. "And you are." I put my hand out too, "Aaron. Now if you'll excuse me, I must get going. I have some where important to be."
"Wait! Wouldn't you like a nice place to rest for the night. It's getting dark and you don't want your daughter out here at this time. Do you?"
I sighed. Michi was right. "Alright fine, but only tonight."
"Perfect! Follow me." She said, leading us down a path to a small, rundown cottage.
Michi opened the door for us. I walked in and plopped in a chair. Lilith went to explore around the house.
Michi came up to me. "So why were you in the forest?" She asked. I shrugged my shoulders. "Hmm." She walked into her kitchen and came back with a needle.
My eyes drifted to the sharp tip. "What's that for?" I asked, pointing at it. "This." She leaned down and shoved it in my neck. I screamed in pain.
Lilith ran up to me as Michi walked away. "Daddy what happened!?" She asked frantically. "I want you to go find Mommy and bring her hear. Take this." I handed her a bag of food and a picture of Aphmau. "But what about you?" My vision turned white. "I'll be fine. Now please get Mommy bring her here. You'll also need my sword." I handed her it.
"I love you Lilith."
"I love you too Daddy."
She snuck out of the house, waved goodbye, and left.
My eyes wouldn't open and I drifter away. As this happened I thought that good would come of this. I would see Aphmau after.....
