Ch. 17 - Let the battle begin

*Sky's POV*

Me and Akane both managed to dodge the orbs just in time. But that didn't stop her from charging straight towards me, with a dagger in her hand.

"I'M COMING TO KILL YA!" Sakura said, still laughing like a maniac. Before I could even take out my sword to block her attack, Akane stepped in front of me and blocked the attack.

"This is between you and me. KEEP SKY OUT OF THIS!" Akane pushes Sakura, causing her to stagger backwards. Sakura looked like she was possessed, like she wasn't in control of her own body anymore.

"Get out of my way, Akane! I want to fight the real deal." She looked at me with a hungry look in her eyes. This caused Akane to get annoyed.

"You are fighting the real deal!" The next thing you know, Akane appeared front of Sakura. Akane tried to strike her with her scythe but, Sakura dodged it by taking one step back.

Sakura looked at her and chuckled.

"Don't make me laugh, Akane. You are nothing, and you will always be nothing to me." That seemed to hit a nerve in Akane because, she stood there - frozen.

This gave Sakura the opportunity to throw a punch at Akane, sending her flying towards one of the trees.

"AKANE!" I try to go after her but, Sakura stands in my way and shoots more black orbs at me. I hissed, as one of the orbs slightly hits my arm.

"Now that she's out of the picture, we can fight now!" I hold my arm in pain and, look at her disgusted.

"How could you do that to Akane? She was your student, she was your friend." She laughed as soon as I mentioned the word "friend".

"Wow! You really don't get it, do you?" I looked at her in confusion as she continues on. "The only way to survive, is to put yourself first. Even I taught her that! She should have seen the betrayal coming from a mile away. I thought she was strong but, now I realized that she is weak, and she will always be if she relies on others."

Now, this made my blood boil. How could she throw away a friendship like that so easily?

Then all of the sudden my sword started to glow bright purple. I stared at my sword shock, trying to figure out what was going on.

Is this the full power of my sword?

"What are you doing, with your sword?" Sakura asked, eyeing me suspiciously. She almost sounded like she was afraid? But, I didn't care because I was filled with rage by what she said.

Suddenly, I had this new confidence in me. Then, without even thinking about it I said.

"KOUKI! Unleash your full power!" My sword reacted immediately, and shot a beam of purple light towards Sakura.

Sakura tried to block the attack by creating a shield around her but, the light was so powerful it broke her shield and pushed her back into the trees.

She groaned in pain trying to stand but, she leaned on the broken tree for support.

"Now this is what I'm talking about!" She flys towards me and tries to stab me with her dagger. But, I grabbed her hand and stabbed her in the right side of her shoulder.

She screamed in pain, staggering backwards. But, that didn't stop her from making her next move.

"MAMORU! Give me your strength," black mist starts appearing around her. I stare at her horrified by what's about to come next. "Poison vines attack!" Black vines with red roses started to appear around her. One of the vines attacked me, and stabbed me in the chest.

A stinging sensation appeared in my chest. I groaned in pain, and fell to the ground.

"What did you do to me?" I said still groaning in pain, she stood over me and chuckled.

"I poisoned you, using one of my daggers true powers, poison vines. It gives me the ability to poison my victims, causing them to die slowly. But, my dagger Mamoru is hungry for blood so I'll just kill you now!" She stood on top of me, raising her dagger high ready to pierce my chest.

I closed my eyes, ready for the impact but, it never came. I opened my eyes to see that Akane was standing in front of me, and Sakura screaming over the fact that one of her wings broke off.

"DON'T EVER CALL ME WEAK! And stop acting like our friendship was nothing." I stare at the two of them in shock. Rage filled Akane eyes, as she was holding her scythe breathing heavy.

"Why do you always have to get in my way? Our friendship meant nothing to me, I'm not going to be your little BFF and stay by your side forever. Anyways, I need to kill her so I can be Queen of Gehenna, she doesn't deserve to be Queen. I should be queen. So, GET THE HELL OUT OF MY WAY." One of the poison vines aimed straight towards Akane. I tried to get up but, I groaned in pain as the pain in my chest started to increase.

"HOTARU! Be my shield,"  Akane's scythe turned into a shield, blocking the one of the vines. "FIRE RAIN!" Rain that looked like fire started dropping on Sakura.

She tried to use her vines to protect herself but, the fire burned right threw them.

Sakura screamed in pain, before dropping to the ground with burns on her skin. The pain in my chest slowly started to decrease, and I was able to stand up. I put my hand on my chest, and was shocked that the pain was gone. Maybe, it's because Sakura is not controlling the vines anymore.

I looked at Akane with a sympathetic look in my eyes and said.

"Are you okay?" Akane turned around, and her eyes looked so empty inside.

"I'm fine, let's just go find the demon record." I slowly nodded, and started following her.

Just as I was about to take another step, I felt something wrap around my leg and pull me down. I screamed, and looked to see Sakura's vines around my leg.

"SKY!"

"Did you really think that you could kill me off that easily? Well, THINK AGAIN!"
