This story starts out a little different than I planned, but I'm happy with this outcome. I didn't want to show the whole battle of Viggo and his army in this book, but I might do a relatively short Hiccstrid-y book that shows the battle.
Hope you like the story!!!!
HICCUP'S POV
As soon as my feet touched the ground, as was on my hands and knees, panting like a dog. We had finally defeated him. Viggo had lost. We stopped the dragon hunter's army. It was on of the greatest feelings of all time.
Of course, there were some drawbacks, all the dragon riders looked injured to some extent. Ruff and Tuff seemed to be able to take anything, and Snotlout was too proud to admit to being injured, but I could tell that they were all suffering.
As for me, I'd suffered a few minor burns as well as one major one when a small boulder hit me while I was falling through mid air, having been knocked off of Toothless.
All of the was unimportant now, though. We beat him. We finally won.
As I tried to stand up though, I realized that some of it might matter. I cried out in pain and ended up falling back to the ground.
Toothless came over to inspect me, wondering why I was still on the ground. He sniffed my face, giving it was slimy, slurp-y lick before running off to play with the other dragons.
Astrid came over and knelt down next to me. "Are you okay, Hiccup? Do you need help?" she asked with worry in her face.
" I think I'm fine, thanks, Astrid."
Though as I tried to stand up, I realized that it was a whole different story and that I was indeed not fine.
Sensing my struggle, Astrid wrapped her arm around my waist and helped me up so that I was leaning against Toothless. At that time the others had seem to have gotten there bearings and came over to Astrid and I.
"Hiccup, are you alright?" Heather questioned.
"I'm fine, really." I said, starting to get irritated by their questions.
"Regardless if you say your fine or not, we should probably head to Berk and get Gothi to take a look at your injuries." Fishlegs reasoned.
"Berk?! Berk?! It takes a whole day to get to Berk!" The Twins complained.
"The twins are right. We should head back to The Edge before we head to Berk, just to regroup and get a few supplies before we set off for Berk." For once, I realized, they actually made the slightest bit of sense, and that I was backing them up on it.
"Hiccup, are you sure? I'm pretty sure you need help." Astrid still seemed reluctant to go along with this plan, but we did need supplies before we set out on such a long flight.
I'll be fine, Astrid. Let's get back to The Edge, gang. The quicker we get there the quicker we can set off for Berk."
ASTRID'S POV
I don't like this plan. You could see it plain as day on Hiccup's face that he was in pain. As we flew back to The Edge, I tried to silently encourage everyone to go faster, though no one was paying attention. I decided to give up on trying, and flew beside Hiccup to make sure he was alright. He looked like he was in pain and his breathing was labored, but he didn't make any notion to complain. That was Hiccup, strong until the end.
"We should be getting close." Hiccup called out to us, breaking me from my daze.
"Finally," Tuff said, "I mean, who decided to have that battle so far from The Edge anyway? Seems kind of stupid if you ask me."
"Tuff, if we had held it remotely close to The Edge, the whole thing would have been completely destroyed." I said, rolling my eyes.
"Awesome." Tuff said, but one cold look from the rest of us changed his mind. "Noooottttttt awesome. Got it." He said, giving an innocent smile.
"Ugh." I said, rolling my eyes yet again. Then I realized that The Edge was coming into view. "There it is guys, come on." I hurried them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Once we landed on The Edge, I hurriedly resupplied so that I could go help Hiccup. I threw Stormfly a piece of chicken, grabbed a yak chop for myself, then headed out to go check on Hiccup.
I landed at Hiccup's hut and walked inside to find him on his bed, not packed and Toothless not fed.
"Hiccup, what are you doing? We need to get to Berk." I was starting to get frustrated as Hiccup just lay there motionless. I was also starting to get a little anxious, though.
I decided that the best way to help Hiccup was to get everything ready for him. I packed everything that he might need into Toothless' satchel and made sure to feed him before sending Stormfly to tell the others it's time to go.
As soon as Stormfly returned, I looked towards Hiccup who hadn't moved since I'd entered his hut. "Hiccup, we need to go." I said. He still didn't move. I sighed and walked across the hut to his bed.
He looked up at me and said "I can't get up." It was then that I realized just how much pain he was actually in. Sure, the rest of us had suffered a couple wounds, but nothing like a flaming boulder to the chest.
I helped him up and he got on Toothless. We flew down to the dragon stables and found that everyone was down there waiting for us.
Well, not exactly waiting for us.
"SNOTLOUT GIVE ME BACK MY MACEY!!!" Tuffnut said, chasing after Snotlout with Chicken close behind.
"You'll have to catch me first!" Snotlout laughed as Tuffnut tripped over Barch's (Barf and Belch) tail.
"Ugh. We DO NOT have time for this!!!" I growled angrily. Immediately Snotlout and Tuff stopped, Snotlout gave back Macey, and they got on their dragons.
"Alright Riders, move out!" I barked and they obliged. I glanced at Hiccup who was zoned out in his own little world and called out to him. "Hiccup?"
As if noticing for the first time that I was there, he looked at me, then at everyone else taking off, before he got the memo and took off on Toothless. I was definitely worried.
We were headed off to Berk, and I just hoped we could get there without something going wrong.
