I wanted to get at least a couple chapters out to the public to read so that they'd have a reason to come back.
So, without further ado, chapter 2!
HICCUP'S POV
I am fine.
Fine.
FINE.
Astrid keeps looking at me as though any moment I'll break into pieces, the Twins are having a hard time controlling Barch, as he took some hits during the last battle, which means they're constantly running into everyone, and Snotlout is complaining his fool head off about anything he could complain about, while Fishlegs is telling me exactly why we must go straight to Gothi, and Heather has gone ahead to scout. Everybody is making me worry about them, when everyone keep constantly telling me I should be worried about myself.
I probably should be worried about myself. I feel kind of funny. My head seems detached from my body, and maneuvering Toothless seems like the hardest thing in the world. If I didn't have so much to focus on, I might be able to keep myself going in a straight line.
"Are we there yet?!" Snotlout complained.
"Snotlout, be quiet!" Astrid hissed.
"I just want to know where we are!" he said, still complaining.
As if on cue, Heather came back from scouting to give a report.
"We still have a good half day before we make it to Berk, and the weather only gets worse from here." she said, glancing at me the way Astrid won't stop doing.
"Maybe we should turn back?" Astrid says, and everyone mumbles an agreement.
I heard myself say the exact opposite of what I've been trying to get everyone else to do. "We can't turn around. We are about in the middle of our trip. If we turn back now, it will be just the same as continuing to go forward." I really just wanted to touch down on a rock and forget the whole thing, but I knew we had to keep pushing forward.
"Hiccup, what if we just took a break on one of these rocks for a second? Then we could get back up in the air." Astrid said, reading my mind. "The dragons definitely could use a rest after such a long battle."
"Alright, fine." I pointed to a large rock with enough room for all of us. "Let's touch down there and then get back up in the air as quickly as possible."
As soon as we landed Astrid came over and asked if I needed help. I was getting frustrated. I wasn't broken, just injured. Fed up, I shook my head no and tried to get off myself.
I instantly regretted that decision.
Instead of getting off of Toothless gracefully, I ended up freezing in pain and falling off of him, which did not help me prove my point at all.
"Hiccup! Are you alright?" Astrid bent down over me and gently held my head as I squeezed my eyes shut.
"I'm fine."
"Hiccup! You are not fine! You can't even stand by yourself!" she smoothed down my hair as if to comfort herself more than me.
"Astrid, there's nothing I can do until we get to Berk, so there's no point in stressing about it." I tried to sit up, and Astrid reluctantly helped me to my feet as the other riders came over.
"Woah. What happened to you? You look like you got hit by a flaming boulder!" he said, bursting out laughing. "Get it? Because he DID get hit by a flaming boulder!" he said, continuing to laugh until Ruffnut hit him over the head with Macey.
