Ok, Backstory time!!!

Try not to cringe at that gigantic paragraph, it's got some good details in it!

FISHLEG'S POV

Echo was sulking as she walked around us, daring us to move a muscle.

We had heard her talking to Hiccup and Astrid when they had approached, but Astrid and Hiccup had flown away before Echo could lure them into a trap.

I glance over to Echo to see her lock eyes with me.

She doesn't look like a kidnapper.

It pegs the question: If she's so happy here, why is she kidnapping us?

I decide, even if it's futile, to ask.

"Um, Echo?"

She narrows her eyes at me. "What?"

"You said you were happy here with Dawntwister, so why do you want us? There's nothing you could want from us unless you wanted to get off this island."

She frowned, then began a story.

"Years ago, before we got stuck on this island, I was all alone except for Dawntwister. I was around 8, always exploring. My family was always busy in the town,  and my brothers and sisters hated dragons. My parents weren't fond of them, either."

"What does that have to do with us?" Tuff asked.

She shot him a glare before continuing. "My parents saw me as an outcast as my brothers and sisters did. I didn't mind, I had Dawntwister. He and I would often escape into the forests behind our village, then come home in time for dinner. It was a perfect life. My parents would always welcome me home with a smile, even if they didn't approve of me having a dragon. They never stopped me, though. Then, I started to realize that other dragons could be trained, too. I started experimenting. One day, while Dawntwister and I were out flying, we accidentally came across a dragon that wasn't very friendly. It raked a gash down the side of Dawntwister's wing. We decided not to stick around and flew as far as we could away from the dragon. We made it back to our village, and I started looking for my parents. I found them at their hospital. Need I remind you, my village excels at healing people, not dragons. They had no idea what to do with him, so they bandaged him up as best they could and told me to hope that he would be fine. Weeks passed, and he never was. I realized that his wing was infected, and it needed to be treated immediately. We found no one that could help. We decided that we needed to get to a village that knew how to care for dragons, and we had no idea where to go. We'd never traveled off the island before, so it was impossible to know where to go. Eventually, we reached the fog bank and decided to take a shot. Horrible idea. A twister swept through and Dawntwister was in no shape to outrun a twister. The morning sun was giving absolutely no help and it was getting harder to see by the second. The twister came out of nowhere and swept us up. It was the worst pain I've ever experienced. We stayed together somehow, and I'm so grateful that we did. It spit us out what felt like hours but was probably minutes later. We fell to this island, and Dawntwister protected me from the fall. She saved my life, but her infected wing's bone structure shattered and she couldn't fly. We were stranded. For weeks I nurtured her wing so that she at least wasn't in pain when she moved. She was in no condition to fly anytime soon, possibly ever again. After those first weeks, we started to explore the island. We found many trainable dragons, and we began to make friends. I got an idea. If I could send an SOS with one of these dragons, maybe I could get help from home. Months went by, and I was down to the last few dragons that I'd grown close to. None of the others had ever come back. I never went with any of them because I couldn't leave Dawntwister behind. She'd think I left her. So, after sending those last few dragons, we found ourselves alone. Years go by. I turn 10. A man comes to the island in an untouched boat, wheezing and dying, quite like your friend. Although unlike with your friend, there was nothing I could do to save him. He died. I pulled his boat out of the water, hoping that we could use it to sail out of here. The harsh winds tore the sails to bits, though. We couldn't use it, we didn't have anything to move it. I turn 15, waiting for someone to come with dragons. No one ever does. We're stuck. I guess it could have been worse, though. Berries grow here, and there's plenty of fish. But the boredom will make your brain rot. All the visitors that come to me are sick or dying. None of them last. I'm 19, now and it's a day before you come into my cave. I'm about to lose my mind. I go to bed, thinking of nothing else to do. Then, when I wake up, I hear people. Loud people. Definitely not sick or dying. Better yet, I hear the roar of a dragon. And another roar. My plan sets into place. The plan I've been conducting for 9 years to get out of the place I've been trapped for 11. I set it into place. I befriend you. I make you trust me by helping your friend Hiccup. Then, I lure you in. It was ingenious. It worked. You fell right into my trap. But your leader, he's smart. He knew what was happening. He made me think that I had the upper hand. They never let on to anything else. I led him straight to you, and now he's plotting. Plotting how he's going to get you back. But I've prepared for everything. Every possible move that he might try to get you free. You can't leave. Not until I get off of here. I miss my family. Your dragons will take me to them. They will fly to my home, pulling my boat. I will be home again. I will finally be home again."

"You could have just asked us, ya know." Tuffnut said bluntly.

Echo looked taken aback.

"What?"

"Yeah, we would've helped you. I mean, you did save Hiccup's life and everything." Heather smiled.

"People don't help you." She mumbled, as if not believing her own words.

"Sure, I mean, we could probably function without Hiccup, but ya know." He said.

The others glared at him.

He shrunk into the wall and smiled innocently.

"Wait, so I didn't have to do all this?" Echo asked.

"Nope." Tuff said, popping the 'pe.'

"How do I know you're not lying?" She asked.

"Well, for one, we'd much rather pretend like we're doing something nice than be forced to do it against our will, and for two, we alway help people. We're Dragon Riders.

She sighed. "I guess I'm just not used to people helping me."

"Well, get used to it, because it looks like we're helping you get off this rock!" Tuff cheered, and they all looked happily to Heather.

"Alright, let's do it." She said, a sprakle in her eye.

.-+-.

It's actually not as short a chapter as it looks, it just hasn't got any spaces in it.

I couldn't bring myself to make Echo the bad guy.
