"We are preparing for lift off, please put all your devices on airplane mode and secure your seat belts," the annoyingly sweet flight attendant said, flipping her long blonde ponytail over her shoulder and winking at Dan. What the hell? Shouldn't she be a bit more professional?

"Um, thanks," Dan mumbled. Once she passed a few rows behind us, he turned to me. "Did she wink at me?"

"Yeah," I laughed. "Do you really have to ask?"

"Her eye could have gotten stuck together because of her mascara or something, how was I supposed to know?"

"Oh my God," I laughed, covering my mouth as the flight attendant walked back to the front of the plane. After a few minutes of silence, I tried to start up a conversation.

"So, have you ever traveled without Phil?" I asked. That's a weird question.

"Oh, um... I mean, for a few days once. But other than that, no. It's kinda weird, actually. But I'm not alone!" He explained. I nodded happily.

"Yeah, traveling alone is probably scary," I guessed. "I've never traveled besides going to London with Joe and Zoella."

"Really? Wow," Dan replied. "I'm super excited for you to move in with us! We can travel all the time if you're not busy!"

"All the time?" I asked. "Ooh, sorry, I scheduled a couple dates with my laptop, can't miss those again." Dan laughed.

"Same," he chuckled. "But I mean, we can go a lot of places, maybe not all the time, but it'll be great! Phil and I will probably be kinda busy too."

"Oh right, how is Phil's meet and greet going?" I asked, looking over at his phone's screen.

"I just changed to airplane mode, but he said it was going pretty well..." Dan sighed. He seemed a bit sad that he wasn't in the meet and greet with Phil, which brought up another question in my mind.

"Wait, don't you two usually do those together?"

"Yeah, usually," he said quietly.

"Um..." I paused, not sure if I should ask, but my curiosity got the better of me. "Why aren't you doing this one together?" He ran his hand through his fringe and sighed.

"Long story..." he replied, as we felt the airplane begin its ascent. I tried to keep myself from asking, but I quite literally couldn't contain my curiosity at this point.

"Can I know it?" I asked hopefully. He stared at me for awhile before sighing again finally.

"Sure," he answered, letting out a breath. "The person who schedules our meet and greets, he called me a couple weeks ago. He said... He said that a lot of Phil's fans don't like me, and that they didn't want me to- to..."

"Oh, Dan... I'm so sorry..." I whispered, wrapping him in a hug. How could anyone not like him? Dan teared up a little, but continued.

"They didn't want me to be there, and so he asked if I'd be okay with that, and of course I said yes... I can't hold my best friend back, he has fans, even if they're not fans of us both... And Phil has no idea why it's just him, he even invited me to come along anyways, I said he should enjoy the alone time with fans," he said shakily, letting a tear fall down his cheek. "I know I'm probably overreacting to this, I'm sorry..." I shook my head and looked him in the eye.

"You're not overreacting. I am insanely proud of you for going through all of that for Phil, without even telling him. He's lucky to have a best friend like you," I said. "And all those fans who don't like you? Blind, every one of them." Dan looked down at his shoes.

"I don't know... If he's doing better off without me, maybe I should just stop getting in the way-"

"Daniel James Howell," I cut him off. "You are his best friend. Do you really think he'd be better off without you, or anyone for that matter? You can't think like that."

"Did you just full name me?"

"Yes, yes I did."

"Well, alrighty then," he said, trying to laugh through his tears. "Who knew that being a YouTuber would be stressful?" I hugged him again, and he laid his head on my shoulder, probably emotionally exhausted.

"I have an idea," I said.

"What is it?" He asked, not moving.

"How about, once we land in America, you're not a YouTuber," I reasoned. "What if you were just Dan? We don't have to worry about being famous, or anything like that. We can do whatever you want!" He perked up at this.

"Really? That'd be great! Wait, but how would we do that?"

"Well, I have a bunch of hair dye, and-"

"I am not dying my hair-"

"I have a bunch of wigs, and-"

"Will that actually work?"

"And color contacts, and-"

"Where are you getting all this stuff?!"

"Oh, right. Okay, I did some cosplay before I became a YouTuber, backstory over. Anyways, it could work! Wanna try it? Wanna be normal for a week?" I asked. This might actually be fun.

"Sure!" He said. "It'll be a nice change."
