Cries, screams, joy, anger, every kind of emotion was running throughout the room. I couldn't imagine what was going through Jacquelyn's mind right now. "Okay Jacquelyn, you're ten centimeters, go ahead and give me a good push!" The doctor said.

Jacquelyn squeezed my hand as she struggled to push our daughter out. "I can't do it." She cried. "I grabbed her by her face and said, "Don't give up on us...on your daughter....not even yourself. You can do it." She shook her head and continued to push the baby out.

"You're doing great mama." I say. "One more time Jacquelyn!" A nurse shouted with excitement. Jacquelyn pushed one more time, and the baby slipped out.

"She's beautiful." I say. I cut the umbilical chord, but the doctor insisted there was problem. "She's not breathing. Get the respiratory system up and running." She shouted.

My heart was pounding with fear. "I'm not getting a pulse." A nurse said. "Begin CPR." The doctor who delivered Victoria, said.

It had been two hours since our daughter had been born and Jacquelyn and I have been waiting to know the progress of Victoria.

"Jacquelyn Laney and Peter Hernandez?" Our doctor entered in. "Yes? How is she?" Jackie asked. "We have good and bad news. The good news is, she is alive." We all took a breath of relief, "but." She added, "Victoria is premature, so she may have some problems, probably not long term, but she needs to stay here until further notice. Her heart and lungs are not fully developed, but they are about 80% developed. Although that doesn't sound so bad, she could stop breathing or her heart can stop and that will stop the blood flow to her brain, which will cause brain damage. So, maybe the next six weeks we will hold her and when she passes some tests we put her under, she will be allowed to come home." "Thank you so much doctor." I said.

I didn't know what to think or say. Waiting was our only option right now. "I hope she pulls through." Jacquelyn said. "She will. She's a strong warrior. Just like her momma." I smiled and kissed her forehead.
