RILEY
at Topanga's, in New York

"What is it?" Maya asked as she combed through her perfect blonde hair.

"Why don't... we all sleep over at someone's house tonight?" Farkle added some jazzy movements right after he asked that.

What a cutie.

"That is... A GREAT IDEA!" I immediately clapped my hands and hopped up. "Why don't we go chill at my house?"

"Sure!" Maya and Smackle said at the same time.

"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go to your house right now!" Zay grabbed his coat before leading us all out of the bakery.

"This is my home!" I opened up my arms and continued, "Dad! I'm home! And I brought some friends!"

Dad walked out of the kitchen and started eyeing them – correction. Dad walked out and started eyeing the boys. –

"Who are these people?" He asked.

"Uh, Dad. These are some friends, they're Maya, Farkle, Smackle and Zay." I pointed towards each of them as I spoke.

Maya and Smackle smiled while Farkle said a soft hi, and Zay saying, "How ya doin', sir?"

Dad leaned towards me and whispered, "Where did you meet them? You've never ever brought friends home before."

I whispered back, "Dad. I have friends too! They're... from school."

Dad clears his throat and continues, "Alright, then. I'll be getting outta your way."

The five of us walk up the stairs quietly.

As soon as we were at the bay window, with our coats on my dressing table, I said, "Sorry 'bout that. He's... overprotective. Dads..."

Smackle smiled at me. "Mhm... I get it."

"Anyway, I love the idea of sleeping over together, but I don't think your da–"

Before Zay could finish his sentence, Farkle said, "Hey! That's my house right there! I guess I wasn't really paying attention when you were leading us here..."

What? I quickly stood up from my seat to look at where he was pointing– outside my bay window.

It was another bay window he was pointing to. Except that instead of white frames, they were black in color. And they were covered with black curtains.

Huh. I've never tried or think about looking outside of the bay window. Now that I'm looking right outside, I started to realize the people walking along the streets near my window. I never looked out of the window because I thought that there was nothing to look at... but it turns out that there's a whole new world outside there.

Ooh, there's a cat sleeping on the steps of another apartment, an old lady I've never seen before walking past, and many others!

"Oh my gosh, that's so cool!" I gushed.

"Woah. Farkle? Your house is THAT close to Riley's? Even mine isn't that nearby. I live like 5 minutes from Riley's home." Zay laughed.
