Shortly after the deaths of Thomas and Martha Wayne, Bruce was taken in for questioning. Lieutenant Gordon sat down in front of him in a chair. "I understand this was very hard on you, Bruce. Is there anything you can tell me? What did he look like? Anything?!" Gordon asked.
"His name was Joe." Bruce managed to say. He didn't want to talk at all.
"Joe. Joe what?" Gordon asked.
"Chill. Joe Chill." Bruce answered.
"Chill? I didn't think that crook would commit a crime this bad. What else did he say?" Gordon was desperate for answers.
"He said that he wanted to do it and not that he had to. He was scary." Bruce whimpered.
"I know. We have police on the lookout for him. Don't worry." Gordon reassured Bruce. Bruce felt a little better. "Anything you were able to pick up before we took you here?" Bruce pulled out his toy and showed it to Gordon. There were several small blood stains on the action figure.
"I had lost this toy before we saw the movie and....when they died, I found it not too long after." Bruce explained.
"Is that so? Hmm. Thank you for telling me what you know. I appreciate it and so do my officers." Gordon thanked Bruce.
As Gordon went to open the door, Bruce said, "Wait. Where am I going to go now?"
"I will be leaving you in the hands of one of your father's closest friends. Alfred Pennyworth." Gordon stepped out of the way to reveal an old man with golden round glasses and a tuxedo.
The old man looked disturbed. "I'm so sorry about what happened. Thomas was such an elegant man and Martha....boy was she a pleasant woman."
"I miss them so much." Bruce didn't know what to say. He hardly knew the man anyway. He had only heard his father mention him a couple times.
"I bet you do. Come here, young lad. I shall take you where you belong. Home." Alfred simpered as Bruce obeyed. The two made their way out of the police department and to the parking lot where Alfred's elaborate vehicle was settled. Once Alfred unlocked the door, Bruce climbed in the back seat. "The ride there will take quite a while. I suggest you sleep. That is, if you want to." Bruce liked Alfred. Something about him made Bruce feel secure and safe.
"I don't know if I'll be able to rest after tonight." Bruce remarked.
"Ah, you're right. I apologize." Alfred said.
"It's okay. I'll still try to fall asleep but if I can't, I won't." Bruce replied.
"Sleep well. It'll take about an hour until we arrive with all this traffic", said Alfred.
Bruce closed his eyes and hoped he could get some sleep. Surprisingly, he did. After a half hour, the two reached the destination. "Excuse me, sir. We're here." Alfred lightly tapped Bruce. A tap was all Bruce needed to wake up.
"Here already?" Bruce said, yawning.
"Yes. I'm afraid we are." Alfred stated. Bruce got out of the car to stretch in his yard. Alfred walked with Bruce up to his house door. Alfred pulled out the key to the house which surprised Bruce. Bruce didn't think Alfred would have the key to his house. He ignored it. That was the last of his worries. Alfred unlocked and held open the door for Bruce to walk inside. "Welcome home, Bruce." Alfred said, walking in with Bruce and allowing the door to close shut.
