From Bad to Worse

Morning.

We decided to shower together to clean each other up.

She was even kind enough to help with my morning wood.

I wasn't going anywhere, I was staying home. Naturally, slipping into shorts and a shirt is easier than getting ready for work. And no, I didn't forget. I wore Jessica's necklace around my neck.

I decided, hey, I better cook breakfast.

This time, Sue's favorite.

Rice sauteed with a helluva lot of Garlic and Red Onion.
Tenderloin Steak, Well Done.
Caesar Salad with a generous helping of Cheese and Croutons.
Cantaloupe Melon flavored yoghurt.
(Something we all love, but only Sue has dessert at breakfast like some savage.)
A serving of Cold Milk Tea for us both.
(Cause hot beverages in the morning are for the weak.)

"Mmmm. For me??" I heard her say as she made her way down, wearing her usual duds. Pencil Skirt, shiny black heels, an unbuttoned coat revealing a bare naked cleavage free of the confines of a bra.

"Still no bra?" I lied. Of course I loved seeing her without one.

"Do you never learn?" She retorted.

"Yeah. You gave me what I needed, Now I give you what you deserve."

"Haha. Yeah. What I deserve." She said, nervously.

She was afraid yesterday morning. Last night her facade was cracking.

Now she wasn't even trying to hide it from me.

"Sue. What's wrong?" I asked.

"Nothing! This tastes great!!" She said, gobbling up the food.

"Sure." I said, for now. I wasn't gonna let this pass, but I wasn't gonna ruin her breakfast, either, she's loving this.

I waited for us both to finish. I waited for her to get the last leaf of salad. Till the Steak's all bone. I waited until the Cantaloupe Yoghurt was gobbled up.

I waited for tea time, when we both sipped on our cups.

And Sue knew it.

She was uneasy as she took the last drops of the yoghurt. She was shivering as she grabbed her tea.

"You noticed." She began.

"Sue. What's wrong?"

"Everything."

"What?? But you changed the rules--"

"No, Arthur, it's not that, it's... it's work."

"Tell me."

"I've been hiding secrets from you, Arthur. Secrets I can't yet disclose. Secrets I left behind making sure only you will find them."

"Secrets like what?" I peered in, curiously.

"Secrets that are enough to get me in trouble. I can't tell you all of them, but--"

"But...?"

"For one, I've violated the Human Rights of others. VertexCorp is a corrupt company that does underground illegal business. The President knows nothing, he's a mask. I control the underground empire."

"Why are you telling me this?"

"Because it's no longer safe. Jessica's Uncle Bertram is involved, and she had to flee for her life. So do you, but I don't know who to trust." She said, her voice was now shakier than ever.

"What do I do?"

"Keep your promise. Remember. Not just Jessica. Remember me. Remember all the good times we had."

"Why? Where are you going?"

"They're going to take me away because yesterday..." she paused, now violently struck with fear.

"Yesterday, I leaked all of VertexCorp's secrets. I couldn't do it anymore. I kept telling myself I do it for you. I do it to feed you. But the people there, They're not human. They're monsters."

"Sue, I don't understand..."

"Neither do I, Art. All I know is, when they come for me, they may lie about me. Say things about me. Accuse me. Some of them might be true, some of them might not be as much, but the world will believe them."

"Sue. I love you. That is all."

"I love you too, sweetie, but, I'm scared of what they'll do to you. And I'm scared you won't find out the things I need you to know. I'm scared they might find it before you do."

"I'll find them, Sue. And then I'll save you."

"Thanks, Arthur. But, with the things I've done. I'm not sure I deserve saving."

"Sue--"

"Listen, I need you to act like you believe whatever they're accusing me of. You need to act like you believe all of them and you hate me for it. It will be easier for both of us."

"But why?! These secrets--"

"Remember, Arthur. In this era, secrets no longer exist. Only Lies."

"You need to act, Arthur. For your safety. You need to act like I'm the villain here. You'll understand later. Promise me."

"Yes, Sue. I promise. I'll act."

"There's my favorite cousin." She said, hugging me.

"I love you, Sue."

"And I love you."

She kissed me for a moment, and then went back to hugging me. I could feel her hands shivering, knowing what's coming. But while I saw fear, I didn't see tears.

She was shaking violently. Stricken with fear and guilt.

"Be strong, Arthur Grayson."

"And you be strong too, Sue Grayson." I replied.

There was a knock on the door.

"Sue Grayson!! We know you're in there."

The cops. They've come for her.

"Sue. Your coat. Button it up." I whispered.

"Not today, Arthur." She smirked as she walked towards the door.

"Sue Grayson, we have a warrant for your arrest, would you place your hands behind your back please." He recited.

"Goodbye, Arthur." She said as they handcuffed her hands behind her.

"You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be used against you in court." The cop continued as they grabbed her along.

Being a minor, they took me too.

At the station, I saw them record her fingerprints and take her mugshots.

This whole time, being Sue, she left her coat freeflowing. Every person with a hint of testosterone at the station was staring at her.

They let her dress up in prison uniform, and after Sue got changed, they led her away into the cells.

That was when it started.

When I felt like I was being sold away.

Custody, they called it.

Have some family adopt me, knowing Sue's the only one I had left.

I told you, everything's gone to shit.
