dan shook his head to wake himself up. the figure knocked casually on the door again and dan sat up straighter. he tilted his head to the side earning a few gruesome pops from his neck and shoulders.
the chocolate haired boy quickly pulled over an old grey sweatshirt before going to answer the door. the cold wooden floor stung against his bare feet, a draft chilling his legs. winter was definitely upon london.
dan unlocked his door and hesitantly opened it. a familiar figure stood there seeming uncomfortable.
pj.
"what the hell do you want?" dan scoffed.
pj rubbed the back of his neck and refused to make eye contact. "i'm sorry about earlier... i was out with some friends and when i got home i was bored..."
"so what are you doing at my flat now?" dan questioned.
"well," pj finally made eye contact, "there's this party tonight-"
dan started to shut the door, "bye pj."
the green eyed boy tried to keep the door open, "dan wait please hear me out!"
dan relaxed and let the door open again so pj could explain. "why should i come to this stupid party with you?"
"i promise there's no drugs at this one! i think it'll be good for you to get out of the house."
"pj i don't do parties."
"dan please? i promise there's no drugs at all! i made sure of that. chris isn't invited so it shouldn't be a problem. please come?" pj pleaded.
chris had been known for his infamous drug deals and had been kept in captivity a few times over the past few years. knowing he wouldn't be there made dan feel a little better, but there was still that bad feeling in the pit of his stomach.
"why are you so destined to get me to this party?" dan asked hesitantly.
"i've just noticed how often you've been keeping to yourself and it's not healthy, dan. i know you aren't at your best point, but i at least want to help. you never let me help in high school-"
"because you were always out getting stoned with your friends." dan interrupted.
"i'm working on that dan. trust me. i'm trying. but please just come to this party with me. we don't have to stay super late, and i promise that i won't get wasted."
"yeah sure. whatever, it's a party. I know you're gonna get wasted." he hesitated, thinking about pj's invite.
"fine..."
♡♡♡
dan looked longingly at his reflection in the bathroom mirror, running his skinny fingers through his chestnut curls. "you can do this. it's only a few hours."
pj knocked on the door, "dan? you almost ready?" his muffled voice asked.
dan sighed, "yeah, I'll be out in a sec..."
"okay, i called a cab and it'll be here in ten."
dan fixed his long sleeve flannel to make sure his scars weren't showing and gave his reflection a reassuring fake smile before opening the door.
pj stood in the living room, looking out the bay window. "the view is incredible. you can even see the london eye."
"i sat there all day just listening to the rain..." dan admitted.
the green eyed boy nodded his head, not shifting his vision from the cascading city lights.
"should we go down to wait?" dan asked.
pj nodded, "probably a good idea."
♡♡♡
dan nervously followed pj into the house with flashing colored lights and booming music. as soon as they stepped inside, the stench of alcohol and smacked them in the face.
the nervous boy noticed that pj had gone off with his friends, but gave dan aware smile and mouthed you can do this. he walked over towards the table of assorted liquors and bottles of beer and soda, choosing pepsi with plain liquor, then poured it with shaking hands.
dan held the red solo cup closely to his abdomen, tremulous from all the people. a quiet spot in the corner where no one stood was what he focused his eyes on.
he safely made it over there and sat on the blue velvet loveseat, observing the people surrounding him.
dan sat quietly sipping his drink while happily watching from his seat when a greeting made him jump in surprise.
"hi there!"
dan turned to see a raven haired boy with piercing blue eyes smile warmly at him.
