Ch.10 Not So Normal

(Two months later)
The sun warmed my body, any day now my pups would be born. Breeze had lead the hunting team out to catch prey and I could hear the boarder dogs behind me in the bushes it was just me and Breezes sleeping pups in camp. I quietly walked over to them but as I laid down Shadows ears flug up and is noise twitched then he looked at me
"Has mother gone hunting?" He questioned
I nodded
"Can me and Flower play?"he added
"Only if you stay around this area" I replied
He jumped to his feet and barked at Flower to wake up. She glanced around and meet my eyes then lazily jumped up and play tackled Shadow. They showed of some of there moves before they sat at my paws
"Anything we can do?" Asked Flower
"I don't think so.. You guys can come with me to gather leaves" I answered
They looked excited about there task and followed me to the tree line. They brushed their paws along the side of the soft dead leaves and made a pile. I scooped a jaw full and put them in another pile at camp, we continued the cycle seventeen times until there was a large gathering of leaves at camp. We walked back to camp.
"There you are" yipped Breeze as she licked her pups
"We gathered some soft leaves mother!" Barked Shadow as he dashed over to the leaf pile and dived in followed by Flower
"Nicely done"Breeze remarked as she scooped her pups out of the leaves.
"Half of them are for your pups"I yipped "And half for my future ones" I added
"I'm surprised that they haven't been born yet" she barked
I shrugged it of. By now Spot had finished his shift as boarder dog and was going back tonight
"Finally I can get some rest!" He barked
"So can I, I feel so lazy!" I embarrassedly reply
We laid down together
"I'm thinking of challenging Shine for a higher rank it won't be hard" he yipped
"You could easily win that battle" I answered "but she's not weak" I added
"Just don't worry about it I'll challenge her tonight." He barked
I arranged my share of leaves in a small circle for my future pups beside where we sleep and rearranged mine and Spots before we fell asleep beside each other.

"What are you doing here!?" I hear in the distance. It's Alpha
Foxes...I get to my feet Spots and Bre--Beta are already guarding me Breezes and her frightened pups. Alpha launches at the larges foxes neck. It quickly falls dead. Now all the pack are circled around me and the pups. Flower thinks she can take on the orange furry beast I hold her back. Spot death shakes a fox as he makes a gape for one to run through I stand at the end of the gape I small fox cunningly crawlers through the gape only to be meet by my jaws I toss it to the side the pups stare at me. I hear my pack mates wincing in pain and anger. I tell the pups to calm down, they are now huddling under behind my paws. Another fox pounces not at me but the pups Spot sees what it's doing too I slap it to the side with my claws then Spot finishes it with a blow to the head. The battles over all the foxes are dead, Alpha however is badly injured. Many bite marks cover is grey fur sure to leave a scar.
"Everyone alright?"Beta questions
"Yes Beta"everyone answers
Even though a few dogs had bite marks and scars including Spot they replied in a happy respectful tone.
I relaxed my muscles and stepped aside from the pups that raced towards there mother she had a small bite mark on her front paw.
"You ok?"I question as I trot up to alpha
"I'm..fine, Beta your in charge of the pack for two cycles of the sun and moon" he mumbles as he walks to his sleeping spot at curls up.
"Oh.. Yes Alpha"Breeze barks as she turns to me "Ok Beta get us some prey please" she adds
"Ok Alpha" I cheekily reply
I howl to signal a hunt to begin as I head into the forest I'm followed by Bolt and Nala. We went deep into the forest further enough that our fight wasn't heard. Nala alerted me that she scented a mole I let her go after it but told her to be a silent quick death soon after she left I scented a gathering of ferrets I scent Bolt upwind to drive them down but to quickly come back. I hear is distant bark and a mini stampeded of fury ferrets come towards me few see me and avoid the danger but i managed to kill two critters. Bolt comes rushing to me to follow him I trot after him we spot a deer in the distance we both lower ourselves and sneak through the grass only problem the grass isn't very long. Only a meter away from the antlered beast Nala crouches beside me. And together we pounce Bolt at the neck me at the front hoofs and Nala to the flank. In seconds it's dead. Bolt pulls the deer with a little help from Nala with a mole in her mouth leaving me to carry the ferrets. I felt weak from my unborn pups that were slowing me down.
We arrived at camp to the drooling of jaws me and Breeze dropped a mole and chunk of deer beside our true Alpha and wander of to join the others I got the biggest chunk of meat I ever ate that night after I finished I felt a shot of pain in my stomach and it wasn't from all the food.
