Ch.15 Grey

"Raven..Raven wake up" someone mumbles
It's Spot.
"Yeah?"I mumble
"Alpha said I can go back to being a prey dog!, Bronze is going to be a boarder dog now"he barks
"Congrats" I yip then collapse my head back to the grass
"Mothers awake!" Thistle barks alerting the others
"Yay..."I mumble in my head
Just noticing the sun in the middle of the sky. I get up energetically and wander to my pups
"Remember what we're doing today?"I question
"Yea! Your going to teach us stuff" Rose yips
"Can I come?" Asks Spot
"No, it only takes one dog" I reply
I lick him on the ear then walk of with the pups into the forest
"One of the things I was going to talk to you about was the snakes. Did you smell the snake?" I bark
"Yes"they all reply
I turn to a bush covered in dark purple berries.
"See these?, smell them"I bark
They all curiously sniff the berry
"You can eat them" I yip
Imedetly they start chopping at the berries
"If they don't smell like that don't eat them they could give you a stomach ack or worse" I warn
We keep walking until we see another bush. I smell it there good berries
"Now Mist tell me are these good berries?" I question
She sniffs them then eats one
"There real good berries" she replies
I eat a couple then they scoff down the rest. We keep on walking until I smell something. A faint old scent of a bear
"Ok pups smell the air push aside the common scents and you'll scent a old scent of a bear. Bears look like huge fat brown wolves. They are very fast so if you smell one and it doesn't smell you quietly run away" I bark
"They sound scary" Thistle whines
"They are, but don't be worried the pack, me and your father will be there for you even if we aren't" I assure
He nods. We keep on walking, that faint scent gets stronger the pups didn't relise
"pups sniff the air then follow me" I whisper then walk in a different direction
They come running to me once they realise what I was talking about. Thistle was a bit shaken.
"It's fine, it isn't near us now.." I bark as I keep walking
The sun was mid way between the middle and the end. I turned in a different direction slightly towards camp. More berries hung on a bush I sniffed the air it was clear, I sniffed the bush it wasn't.
"Good or bad?" I ask them all
"Good" Rose replies
"Bad" Mist and Thistle reply
"They aren't edible" I correct looking slightly in Roses direction
I keep on walking we pass Shine and Stride on Boarder watch.
"Hey guys, there's a bear further back" I bark waging my tail in its direction
They nod. We keep walking until we reach camp. I felt fine but the pups were tired
"What did you learn pups?" Breeze questions
"What berries are good and bad" Mist reports
"And what a bear smells like" Thistle barks still slightly shaken
"Take a nap pups" I order
They swiftly do as I say without hesitation. I head to the river for water Silver was there
"Those your pups?" He mutters
I nod my head
"Spots the father?" He adds
I nod my head again
He sits beside me, we talk for awhile before I walk of. Tackle calls out for the hunt to begin every prey dog except for me follows him into the forest. I laid beside my pups for a while and somehow managed to fall asleep even though I wasn't tired. I heard distant chatter I sniffed the air. Another. New. Dog. Ugh!. I walked to the scene. It was a pup not much older that mine
"I join pack?" The grey pup asked
"Sure thing little one" Alpha barked in a kind voice
The pup walked into the territory to not much further then were my pups were. I sit by my sleeping pups
"Come over here please" I whisper to the pup
He walks over
"What's your name?" I ask
"Grey..."the pup whines
The pup had a scratch on its side and look starving. He stared at the river.
"You thirsty? Follow me" I barked
He got up and followed me he tripped and whined. I walked back and gently puck him up by his scruff and carried him to the water. He drunk the water like he hadn't drunken for days.
The prey hunters returned
"I'll be back in a second" I said to the pup before I ran of. They got two rabbits, two deer and a squirrel.
"The pups starving I'm going to not stay for prey circle" barked before running of with the back leg of a deer and a rabbit.
I put the rabbit beside my pups and returned to Grey with the part of a deer. He looked stunned to see food and started eating the meat. I eat one side and he ate the other he fell asleep beside it I pick him up and laid him beside me and my pups, they were up and happy to see another dog their age
"This is Grey don't disturb him just share your rabbit" I whispered to my pups they stare at him while munching on their prey then fell asleep. Mid way through the night Grey started whimpering, I friendlily licked him on the ear and asked him what's wrong
"I.. I miss my mother" he admitted
I comforted him by tucking my fluffy tail beside him
"died" he whined
I was a bit taken back
"All my pack killed by wolves" he mumbled
"You'll be staying with me for now on and I'll be your new mother, take care of you and protect you" I whispered
He looked up at me, his soft brown eyes sparkled from the moon light.
"Thank you"
