Ch.16 Normal Life

(Next day)
I wake up little Greys still asleep my pups are up and playing.
"Hi mother, good morning" whispers Mist
I lick her on the ear Thistle and Rose walk up to me I lick them two
"I don't think Grey will be up to playing today but maybe tomorrow." I bark
His head flings up and he looks at me
"These are my pups Grey. Thistle, Rose and Mist" I tell Grey
He looks at them.
"Let's go swimming" I bark
I get up, pick up Grey by the scruff and walk to the river. I walk across to the other side and put him in the cool calm water.
"Wash of" I yip as I lightly splash him with the clear blue substance.
The others jump around playing in the water but Mist sat there with me and Grey.
"Have some fun pups!" I yip as I leap into the deeper colder part of the river.
Grey paddles around a small bit of blood drifts down stream from his scratch also a bit of dirt. After awhile I climb on the shore, shake of the water, sit down and spectate my pups and Grey Spot trots up to me.
"Where have you been?" I question
"Sorting out the bear problem" Spot answers "Is far away now" he comforts Thistle.
I prick my ears up, witch most always means I have an idea.
"Pups get out please I have an ideas for today" I bark and walk of swiftly followed by four pups
"Alpha can we have some races, some for dogs and for pups?" I question Breeze who sits on her rock(She doesn't do boarder watch anymore)
"Sure" she replies
shortly before she raises her head and howls for the pack to come to her
"Today we are having races" declares Alpha
"First round, Rose vs Mist vs Thistle" I announce then lean down to Grey "want to join in?" I whisper
"Another day" he replies
"Then Me vs Alpha. Followed by anyone else you want to race so get you partner or partners and line up" I add
I help my pups line up
"Go" Alpha declares
They bolt of as fast as their little legs can take them to the closest tree and back in the start Mist was the leader but by the time they neared the finish line Thistle over took them.
"Nice one Thistle, you can rematch after the others line up" I bark
They scurry to the back of the line
"Finally a rematch" Breeze giggles
"Your going down" I cheekily respond
We line up, Tackle barks 'go' we dash of Breeze doesn't make the same mistake of using all her energy first like last time we keep at a steady pace but when we got to the far tree and turns around we bolted for it. I used long powerful strides to keep in front of her I heard my pups cheering for me even Grey was. We crossed the line. I bet her by a paw step according to Tackle
"Yas!" I cheer
I climb up and sit beside Alpha on her rock. Many races pass. The new wolves out ran nearly every dog only me and Breeze could barley beat them. My pups raced again this time Rose won she studied my race and learnt to not use all you energy first then go for gold on the way back. Thistle and Rose learnt a lesson from me too. Grey was cautious around the wolves, memory's got the better of him. After the races I told Spot about how I took in Grey he was fine with it.
"Hunt time hunters!" I barked then took one step away from the pups then turns around
"I'll be back just stay with the others or Alpha" I tell Grey
I walk into the forest. Imedetly we pick up the scent of rabbits, six of them. They were basically in a line for us.
"Nala, Dig, Silver, Spot, Tackle, Whisper take them out in a line" I whisper
They take there oppositions then pounce all of them retrieve their prize, but stupidly they make so much noise
"Nice job but keep the noise down please" I approve "Let's go to the river everyone's expected to catch two fish, it's ok if you only catch one" I add
I lead them down to the river the bear has been here everyone else picks up on it
"Nala, Tackle, Whisper keep watch in case it comes back" I order
They dip their head in acceptance then walk of to protect our little group.
A wave of fish come down river I ready myself then swipe two out but I don't stop there before we went back I caught one more altogether are group had got six rabbits and twelve fish. I lead them back to camp.
"Prey circle" alpha howls
Everyone gathers around my pups and Spot sit beside me
"Grey get some food after Rose" Spot whispers
"It's that time of year again, the bears are out" I announce
Alpha takes a large fish so do I Tackle takes the plumpest rabbit and shares it with Spot. Flower and Shadow share a rabbit my pups including Grey share two medium fish and the remaining nine fish and four large rabbits are shared among my other pack mates.
"Anything that your old pack did that you would like to do?" I ask
"Not much but we had no prey circle they just had a rock you put all the prey on and if your hungry you just take from the rock" Grey replied
I looked a bit puzzled but accepted it
"I meant for fun" I barked
"They did races, and swimming and practiced fighting but I was too little for any job" he whined
"Oh.. anyway time for you pups to sleep" I whispered and lead them to my sleeping quarters beside the river and under a tree. I licked them all goodnight then fell asleep.
