**Heyy Everyone! Just to let you know, the babies are five months old now, which means Ainslee and Jason have 'been together' for nearly a year. Sorry the story progressed so quickly. I have plans for it. Enjoy!!**
-Ainslee's POV-
"Ainslee." Jason whispered in my ear and he massaged my back. "Are you too tired to go on our date today?" he asked, gently. I smiled as I hummed a lullaby I'd been singing to the babies, "No...We've never gone on a date before anyway." I closed my eyes and enjoyed the massage for as long as I could. The babies could cry any minute despite their schedule. "We have gone on a date." He said, clarifying. I shook my head in response, "I meant just the two of us. Plus, it'll be nice to get a little break from the kids. I love them to death. But they're so much work to take care of." I laughed as I remembered the way I'd tell each of them a story when I'd pick them up in the middle of the night. The times when there's no one awake except for us.
"You ready, Lee?" Gina asked as she peeked into my room. I'd put on a floral top, black jeans and a long cardigan. I sighed as I looked at myself in the mirror. "My breasts are so....big! And look at my hips, too. They-" "have gotten smaller since you gave birth to the quads. You look gorgeous, Lee." Gina smiled as she gave me a reassuring hug. "Thanks, Gina. I'd better get going." I told her as I grabbed my purse. I headed down the steps to see a handsomely dressed Jason. He was wearing blue jeans and a Celtics sweater. He looked wonderful. "Wow! Look at you!" he exclaimed as I walked toward him. He gave me a quick kiss on the lips and spun me around. "You ready?" he asked. "I-...Almost." I said as I turned toward Gina.
"SO, you have the print-out of their schedule?" I asked. "Yes." she replied as she held it up. "Make sure to read how each of them like to be carried, which lullaby they like best and their favourite rattles. They all drink the same milk, but Prim is the only one who likes the blended veggies. Test the milk before you give it to them." I told her. She nodded as I said every little bit, "Aye, aye, captain. Everything will be fine. Now get going you two love birds. See you in a few hours." She said as she pushed us toward the door. "I'll be calling every half hour!" I yelled back to her. "Got ya!" She replied, and at that, the door was closed.
"So, where are we going?" I asked Jason as we pulled out of the driveway. "You'll see." he replied. I shook my head at his attempt to be mysterious. I looked out the window as we drove down the highway. All I could think about was the babies. Were they eating? Sleeping? Playing? Did Kiele forget to put Austin in his crib again? Was Prim slapping Em like she did the other day? Was Gina attempting to carry both Cori and Kyle at the same time? All these thoughts and more were running through my mind.
"You okay, Ainslee?" Jason asked as his put his hand on my knee. I looked into his eyes, his gorgeous blue eyes. I held his hand as well. My heart melted as he smiled back at me, which reminded me of the day we first met. "I'm fine, thanks. Why do you ask?" I asked. "You looked deep in thought earlier. Worried about the babies?" he asked.
"I'll be good. Just thinking what they're doing is all. Shall we go?" I asked. "Of course." he replied. He hurried out of the car and right before I opened my door, he opened it for me. "Right this way, milady." he said as he helped me out of the car. I smiled, widely, "Thank you kindly, sir." I looked up and saw that we were in front of one of the most famous bakeries in the word, 'La Petite Cerise'. My aunt got them to make me a cake on my 16th birthday, and that's what inspired me to be a pastry chef.
"Jason, I-" He put his hand up, gesturing for me to stop what I was saying, "We haven't even got inside yet. Come on, in." he opened the door for me and turned on the lights. As soon as they came on I heard, "Surprise!" I looked around the room and there stood Gina, Em, Kiele, the babies, Mason, my aunt and her family, the Cerise staff, my staff, Gina's parents, and my mom and dad. Tears filled my eyes as I read the sign above them, "Happy 21st Birthday, Ainslee! January 20th." I looked to my right and saw a table piled with gifts.
"Your parents planned the whole thing." Jason whispered to me. I looked at my parents and my mother stood there looking modest. They planned this?! I walked up to my parents. They immediately embraced me in an enormous hug. "Even though it's a week early, I wanted Jason to be able to take you out on your actual birthday on the 26th. So, I planned this." My mom said, smiling.
"Mom, I-" I tried to speak, but I was shushed, "I haven't finished. Your father and I treated you very unfairly by disowning you and doing all the things we did. All you did was tell us the truth and we...We were horrible and I am so sorry. You have beautiful children, we have beautiful grandchildren. Thank you for that." she said as she hugged me once again. "You deserve a great night, Ainslee." My dad added. He's like that. Quiet, but wonderful.
There were so many pictures taken with me and the kids, Me with Jason and the kids, me with everyone, me with my sisters and parents, me with Gina, me with Jason, my parents, my sisters and the kids, you name it! And the cake! It was huge! A portrait of me with Jason, the quads, and the rest of my family, including Gina, as little people. Lemon flavoured, my favourite. And the gifts were wonderful! Gift cards of $500 or more, baby clothes, perfumes, shampoos, new outfits for me and some shoes. I also got some things for my shop which was wonderful!
As I finished unwrapping all the presents, I looked at everyone who was here to celebrate this early birthday with me. "You guys, this means so much to me! I'm so grateful for everyone and everything here. Words can't even describe how grateful and happy I am. Thank you so much!" I said, smiling. "A toast!" Jason said as he raised his glass of sparkling grape juice. I raised two bottles of milk for Prim and Austin, and Gina did the same for Kyle and Cori.
"To Ainslee. The spark in all of our lives. A caring mother of four, a daughter, a friend, a sister, a responsible employer. An inspiration, and the reason my life has become so much more beautiful, the beauty that shines before all of us today. We love you, Ainslee!" He said as he raised his glass. "We love you, Ainslee!" Everyone chorused following the toast. "I love you, too!" I replied as I toasted as well.
Gina and the girls, when they were done putting all the gifts in Jason's car and mine, put all the babies in my car and sat next to them. Jason drove my car and Mason drove his. Halfway into the ride back, they were all asleep. "How old are you, Jason?" I asked, realizing the question hadn't come up. "You forgot already? I'm 24." He replied.
"Okay. I know your birthday, so don't worry about that." I said as I massaged his right hand. "Thank you." I said, quietly. "For what?" he asked. "For calling my parents. Kiele told me you sorted everything thing out with them after you bugged her for their number. I didn't think I'd resolve this." I said as I looked out the window. We pulled up to the house and he looked at me.
"Ainslee. I want you to be happy. We've been together not too long, but we've been through a lot together, and it's been almost a year since we've been together." he said. "So..." I said, nudging him to continue. "I love you, Lee. I love you so much! And, I know it might be hard to believe since it hasn't been too long, but I really do love you. You complete me. I know that sounds cheesy, but it's true." he said, so sincerely. "It's not cheesy, Jay. I love you, too. I thought it was just me. You're what I've dreamed about and I'm so lucky I got a guy as wonderful as you!" I said, letting the tears fall from my eyes.
"So, what I'm saying is..." he reached into his pocket and pulled out a small box. I gasped as he opened it, revealing a beautiful diamond ring with a gold band. Tears filled my eyes even more and I was crying and smiling now. "Will you marry me?" he asked. I nodded, choking on my words as I replied, "Yes! Yes, a thousand times, yes!" He slipped the ring smoothly on my finger and I tackled him and kissed him. "You guys are so cute!" Gina exclaimed. Kiele and Em wiped the tears from my eyes. The babies smiled at us. I'm so happy I could just burst! I'm engaged!
