"Come on, sweetheart. You can wear the blue tights." Ainslee told Primrose. She was trying to dress up the kids so they could go to Jason's parents' place. Prim looked over at Corri, wanting her dress. "I don't know why I only bought one pink dress." Ainslee sighed. Jason walked in with the boys. "Actually, you bought two." He said, putting the dress next to an upset Primrose. Prim looked at the dress and smiled. "Thank you...Where'd you find it?" Ainslee asked him. She forgot about all those baby gifts from Jason's relatives.
"It was in that dresser you don't use. So, you ready?" He asked. Ainslee nodded, putting hats on Prim and Corriander. "Yup. Did you put the suitcases in the car already?" Jason looked at her and chuckled, "We did that last night, remember?"
She thought about it and realized he was right, "Sorry, I'm just so tired these days."
They got in the van and started driving. The kids were watching some DVDs on the TV in the car while Ainslee and Jason sat in the front. "You okay?" he asked her. He could sense that she was nervous since she usually talked a lot more while they were going somewhere. "Well, yeah. I mean, what are your parents gonna think of you being with a woman who has 4 kids. From an unknown father according everyone else." She sighed and looked out the window.
"If my parents had any issue with you, I would tell you. They don't, believe me. They also really want to get to know you and the little ones better. Espescially my mom."
"Really?"
"Yes. So relax. There's nothing to be nervous about."
Ainslee looked at the time and saw that half an hour had already gone by. "How far do your parents live again?" She asked Jason. "About 2 and a half hours. Why?" He replied. She squirmed in her seat and looked back at the kids who were sleeping. "I need to go..." she said.
"How badly?" He asked, assuming she could hold it. "I'd say another five minutes before I can't hold it anymore. Pregnant bladder." She breathed slowly, trying to think about something else. He didn't want to tell her this, but they had just passed an exit. "Don't worry, we'll exit real soon."
"We just passed an exit, though." She whined. "Well, I'm sorry, but you could have told me earlier that you needed to go." He replied defensively. "Okay, let's not argue about peeing, okay? Look, there's an exit now." She said, pointing at the exit.
They got to a gas station and she got out to use the bathroom. Luckily, there was a porta-potty right next to it. She got inside and it smelled gross. "Ugh! I hate the smell of fresh dunk." She covered the toilet seat and, when she was done, appreciated fresh air so much.
"Now, that is nice!" She said, walking back to the car. She poked her head through the window, saw that the kids were still sleeping, and then got in. "Did you pack the diapers?" Ainslee asked Jason. He looked at her and shook his head. "You're the one who carries the baby bag." He replied. She just laughed and got out of the car again.
"Where are you going?" Jason asked, assuming they were ready to leave. "To buy gum. I'll be back." She walked into the store and walked around. Her eyes focused on the snacks and candy. She decided to get a bag of dorritos, gum, and two gatorades.
After she payed for her stuff, she walked back to the car, put on her seat belt, and opened the dorritos. "Okay, let's get going." Jason started the car and they went on for the other 2 hours of driving.
"Okay, I got all the food I thought I needed to bring." Lee put the food into the back and got into the passenger's seat. "I still don't get why you had to buy so much food." Jason said, looking at her. She looked at him, ready to explan. "As an African, I always bring something to someone's house when I'm the guest. It's polite. I didn't learn too much African culture, since I was raised in Canada, but that's one thing I did learn."
"I see." He said, nodding. "We are staying there for like a week. I'd likke to show my gratitude as much as possible." She told him. "Well, you are showing it, believe me."
They arrived at the house and Ainslee sighed with relief. It was a nice suburban area, and she liked the atmosphere. She felt tired and really just wanted to sleep. Of course, she knew that wasn't going to happen since the quads had just woken up. "Here we are." Jason said, getting out. He and Lee got the kids out of the car and went to the door. Lee was about to ring the doorbell when the door was swung open.
"They're here!" A girl, looking about 13, yelled. Another 13 year old, a boy, came to the door and smiled. He was holding what looked to be his phone. "Good afternoon." Ainslee said politely. He was planning on saying something smart, but she seemed nice enough to him. "Hello. So, this is your diamond. The one that holds the key to your heart, huh, Jason?" He asked Jason. Jason gave him a look and walked into the house. The kids were just trying to take in the new environment.
"Ainslee, this is my little brother, Ian. Ian, this is my fiancee, Ainslee." Jason introduced the two of them. In the same moment, his parents came to greet them along with his sister.
"You must be Ainslee! I'm Patricia, I'm so happy to finally meet you!" His mom said happily, giving Ainslee a hug. "So am I." Lee replied. "This is my daughter, Ivy and son Ian. They're twins. 13. And this is my huband, George." She said, introducing Lee to the rest of the family. "Nice to meet you." They all said at the same time. "Oh, haha, the pleasure is mine." Lee replied.
"These are my kids. Primrose, Kyle, Corriander and Austin. They're 10 months old." Ainslee said, introducing the quads. They all looked so happy to meet them. "They are adorable! Quadruplettes?" Ivy asked. "Yeah." Ainslee replied. Jason was glad his family was being so friendly towards Lee.
"Dad, Ian, could you help me with the lugguage?" Jason asked. They nodded and all went out to the car. "Well, when they come back, I'll be happy to give you a grand tour of the house." Patricia told Ainslee. Ainslee smiled, feeling as welcome as ever. Well, this should be a fun week.
