[ 9 ]

A loud howl coming from the woods startled me from my self-loathing. I gazed at the woods, wondering where that came from. It sounded like a howl of pain. Was that a wolf? I've never heard of a wolf living in the woods from anyone. Although, no one really had the courage to come inside and look for one. But I've heard of stories from old people that some men dared come inside but never returned. I don't really know whether I should believe them or not.

I wave of pity washed through me when the howl returned, this time it was an octave lower. What if it was hurt or something? Should I help it?

Before I could decide what to do, a loud bang coming from the house caught my attention. I looked at it and realized it was the rather harsh opening of the wooden door. And then a rugged-looking guy I never saw before came out almost running and opened the gate fast. He didn't even notice me standing here, he just sprinted fast into the woods.

So, I am right. There is a guy inside.

Wait, he's gone to the woods. It's dangerous in there. Did he hear the howl, too? Is he going to help the animal? But, I'm pretty sure it was a wolf. He might get attacked!

Damn outsiders and their rash behaviors.

I stepped off my bike fast and followed suit. The temperature dropped fast as I entered the woods.

I struggled to hear any sounds that may lead me to where that guy went to. I admit, I am quite stupid trying to follow him without even knowing where he's gone.

I heard a yelp of pain so I immediately followed where the sound came from. Anxiety and fear crept through me as I heard growls and snaps. I'm not really sure whether this is a good idea. But then the guy might be hurt and needs help.

Now that I think about it, I could've just entered the house and talked to Reign when the guy left. Oh, damn!

Sudden pain pierced my side before I even noticed that I was being tackled to the ground. My tackler shifted me so I'm lying on my back and there I saw a huge brown wolf growling at me. Bright golden eyes pierced through me and I cannot move. Long and sharp teeth ready to bury to my skin. Fear, panic, and dread filled my whole being as I await my death.

Shit! I'm gonna die! I'm gonna die! I'm gonna die!

In a blink of an eye, the brown wolf disappeared in front of me and I heard snaps and howls of pain. I struggled to move, to get up and run, but it seems like my muscles have their own mind. I sat up and looked around me. My gaze stopped in a scene where the brown wolf that attacked me is fighting a white wolf.

Wait, that's the dog from before! Shit, it's a wolf? And did it just save me?

Dumbfounded, I just sat there and watched the whole scene unfolding before me. I flinched when the brown wolf bit the white wolf's leg. The yelp of pain by the wolf made me wince and I felt a huge hatred to the brown wolf. Then it threw the white wolf into a tree and started walking towards me.

Shit, I knew I should've ran!

I didn't dare move, in fear of the wolf might jump at me. From the corner of my eye, I saw the white wolf slowly standing up and then released a small whimper when it stepped on the bruised leg. The brown wolf continued to appoach me and I almost screamed when it snarled at me, showing its blood-coated teeth.

My breathing grew faster and deeper as the wolf was closing in. I couldn't move, I felt stupid just watching the wolf draw in.

"Help..." I did not even recognize my voice. I sounded defeated and afraid, I almost winced at how gay I sounded.

Almost instantly the white wolf snapped its head and looked at me. It looked at me long and hard then its gaze darted to the brown wolf and attacked. The brown wolf was caught off-guard and so it lost its balance so they both rolled to the ground. When they stopped, the white wolf was pinning the brown one and all I could hear were their snapping of teeth at each other. The brown wolf managed to kick the white one off and they circled each other. A loud howl caught the attention of the brown wolf and so the white wolf grabbed the opportunity and targetted its neck. I then heard snaps and yelps and blood splattered everywhere, even in front of my shirt. Within seconds the yelps stopped and the brown wolf lay on the ground lifeless.

And the white wolf was looking intently at me with its golden eyes.
