I stared at Kyle as I formulate the story I would tell him in my head. I am not sure yet how to approach him in a way where he won't be scared. But I know that, no matter how I'd tell him, he would always fear me and what I am.
I took a long breath in. "Okay. Here goes nothing."
Kyle stares at me apprehensively as he await my story.
"You probably know now that I'm not what people think I am. I'm not normal like you guys. I don't live normally like you do. I'm not like you," I started.
Kyle blinked twice, as if digesting what I've just fed him.
"I'm a werewolf."
His jaw fell open and he looked as if he was about to say something but decided against it. He closed his mouth and stared at the blanket wrapped around him. His adam's apple moved as he swallowed an invisible lump in his throat.
I gave him time to think about what I said. I don't want to scare him off by telling him everything at once. I'm going to take this thing nice and slowly.
Slowly, he raised his head and looked at me in the eye, as if pushing me to say more.
"I'm not from here. I lived far from here with my pack. We live away from humans to avoid situations like this one. We can socialize well, of course, but the problem is that some humans are really smart that they would begin to notice the difference of the way we act as compared to them. We are a lot stronger and, well, physically attractive. Some werewolves still live with humans in small towns and villages but they would have to lie low to avoid unnecessary attention. We do have our own civilization, that is, as per pack. There are villages where the occupants are all werewolves but they act normally whenever some humans come unexpectedly. There are schools exclusive for werewolves, too. So, in some ways, we're like humans. But more animalistic and with different DNAs, of course."
I stopped to think for a while what I would tell him next. Kyle is just looking at me intently, as if my story is an important part of history and would be included in the finals exam.
"I'm from the Pack of the Silver Moon. Our pack is situated in the middle of the woods. So I would have to tell you that some villagers in here are werewolves."
His eyes bulged and his mouth opened. Yeah, it's pretty unbelievable that some people around you and have lived with you are not actually 'people'.
I ignored his shocked look and continued. "But not all from my pack are in your town. Some of them are sent to other towns. Okay, so, I'm the Beta's adopted child. Beta is the second hand of the Alpha, the one ruling the pack. More like a president of a country. Rhax, the guy from earlier, is my friend from our pack. And speaking of Rhax... Um... The thing he said earlier... Uh... Would you like to ask something first before I move on to a lot more complicated topic?" I asked. I suddenly felt nervous and uneasy talking about mates.
Ugh! This would be a lot easier if he's a werewolf, too.
But of course, I wouldn't exchange him for anything. He's perfect for me.
He blinked for a couple of times before releasing a huff of air. He cleared his throat, as if testing his own voice, before speaking.
"Um... Can... Can you tell me who are those w-werewolves in my town you were talking about? Like... Who are they?"
"Well, Mr. Carter is one. Even Mrs. Baker and her family. Oh and the man from the bakery, Samuel. There are a lot, actually. Some aren't from our pack," I stopped when I noticed he was about to say something.
"M-Mr. Carter? You mean... My neighbor is a werewolf?!"
"Yep. His son Lucas, too."
"No wonder the guy looks good and gets all the girls," he muttered to himself.
"Yeah well, he's a werewolf alright. But don't worry. One day he's gonna stick to one girl. Or guy," I added the last part in a whisper.
Kyle stayed quiet. He looks like he's thinking hard about something.
"Um... You... You said something about you being the... Beta's... Adopted child. You're adopted?" He asked and stared at me with his damn hot lingering eyes.
Oh I just want to devour him right now! I felt my wolf scratching her way out and just take over.
"Yes, I am." I told him of the story of my childhood. He listened to me attentively, never missing a single beat.
After I'm finished with my story, he's head was bent down.
"That's terrible. To lose your family in an early age. Were the culprits arrested?" He raised his head and looked at me.
I smiled at his adorable innocence. "We don't normally arrest them."
His head twitched to the side. "Why so?"
"Because they fight back. To death," I answered.
"Oh." He seemed taken aback. "So you... Kill them?"
"Yes. To protect our own pack of course. It's like a battle for dominance. But my current pack never searched for the pack who destroyed my former home. They just let it be. I mean, they're not exactly a threat."
"But, still. Your parents deserve justice."
I smiled at his wisdom. Oh, he's perfect.
"It doesn't matter anymore, Kyle. I'm okay with it. I'm happy with my pack. I love my dads," I told him.
"Your... Dads?"
"Yeah. My adoptive parents. They're both men," I chuckled at his surprised face.
"You mean they're... Oh. I'm sorry I just assumed they're... I don't have anything against gay couples, Reign! I'm sorry."
I couldn't help it and so I laughed. He looks so cute!
"Yeah. It's okay. I love them both so much. They're love for each other just inspires me everyday. It makes me want to find my mate sooner," I told him seriously after my laughter subsided.
"Your... Mate? Reign, what is a mate?" He finally asked.
