A distant ring inside the house brought us back to our senses. Kyle withdrew his forehead but kept his hand on mine.
The ringing went on a few times before it stopped. A few seconds later, there was a knock on the door.
"What is it?" I asked aloud.
"Um... Uncle Deck is on the phone. He wanted to talk to you. He said he couldn't reach your cellphone," Rhax explained.
Oh, drat! I forgot to recharge my phone. My system completely shut down when I went home last night from Kyle's house. I mean, it wasn't nice to receive a complete blow off.
I know, I acted unreasonable. But I guess my wolf just took over and acted on jealousy. It was impulsive and rash, and so I guess I deserve Kyle's words.
But I have to admit, his words really hurt that this morning I've gone on autopilot. My head buzzed and I felt lightweight. I couldn't accomodate Rhax and I just ran off to the woods. The woods brought me comfort. It always has. But that time, if I couldn't get any luckier, a lone wolf attacked me.
I didn't know who he was. He wasn't from my pack or from the neighboring town. He just acted mad and enraged. Of course, I had to fight back or I'd get seriously hurt.
I was taking it easy on him. Although my wolf wanted otherwise. She doesn't want to get challenged and mocked like that.
But it completely aggravated me when he turned and attacked my mate when I lost my focus the moment I smelled his scent. He tried to kill him and so I had no choice but to attack or I'd lose my mate and myself.
I know, it was really stupid to kill him and not just bring him to the pack house for inspection but I didn't want to lose my mate. Well, who would?
I felt really guilty when I saw the wolf's mate and how she lost herself because of full agony. At the same time, it scared me. Now I know how scary it is to lose your mate. I didn't want to be a wolf forever.
"Should I ask him to call back?" Rhax interrupted my thoughts.
"Are you stupid? He's my dad, not some customer on a store," I told him.
"Well, I'm sorry. You were out of yourself! I thought you've gone bonkers."
Before I could hit him he already ran off, knowing full well what would happen to him. That asshole.
A sexy chuckle rang around the room as Kyle showed his amusement. His eyes glowed with pure mirth and I found it relieving that he's doesnt look afraid or anything.
"I'll just go and talk to dad. Wait here. I'll be quick," I told him and stood up.
I was ready to get out of the room but his hand reached out and grabbed my arm. He pulled me towards him and his lips gently touched my forehead.
"Thank you. For saving me," he said while looking directly into my eyes. His gaze almost made my knees buckle and I felt the insides of my stomach twisted knot.
"You're always welcome, Kyle."
--
"Hello, Dad?" I talked to the phone.
"Hey. Where's your phone? I've been trying to call you many times. Your dad's worried sick," my dad, Deck, ranted. He was talking about his mate, my other dad, Anjelo.
"I'm sorry, Dad. I forgot to recharge my phone last night. A lot of things have been on my mind. Sorry."
"Oh, okay. Well, what's been bugging you? Are you sick?"
Before I could answer, I heard muffled sounds from the other line then my dad's, Anjelo's, voice rang from the phone.
"Sweetie? Hey. What happened to you?! Why aren't you answering your phone? We're so worried something might've happened. Are you hurt? Sick? Is something bothering you? Do you want us to go there? I told you we should come with you. You're so stubbo--" I cut him off before he could continue his rant.
Yep. Men rant, too.
"Dad! Hey. I'm fine. I'm sorry. I just forgot to recharge my phone. Geez. Couldn't you get anymore worried?" I said jokingly. "There's nothing to worry about. You don't need to go here."
I heard him sigh with relief. "Oh, I thought something bad happened to you. We were ready to go there."
"No kidding. He was already packing our bags," Dad Deck's voice came through the phone.
"Let me guess. You sent Rhax here didn't you?" I asked.
"Well, yeah. I mean, you can't blame us, honey. We're your parents. And I still don't get why you wanted to live and attend school there when you can be with us and Rhax here," he complained and I can hear the bitterness in his tone.
"Well..." How should I say that the main reason why I went here is because I found my mate here? "I have to tell you something," I started.
"Oh. What is it?"
"It's about my mate..."
"Yeah?" He asked cautiously.
"He... He's here. I found him. Here," I told Dad.
For a few seconds, Dad's silence scared me. But then...
"Gaaahhh!!! OMG!!! Your mate! You found your mate! Why didn't you tell me?! Oh my goodness! We have to meet him! Oh, what's his name? Is he cute? I bet he's cute! Oh, we have to go there Deck! Go pack--"
"Dad!" I shouted at the phone to stop him. Goodness! Can't he get anymore excited? I can't help but be a bit giddy, too.
"Yes, sweetie?" He asked, breathing heavily after his rant.
I laughed at him. "Oh, Dad. Calm down, okay? His name is Kyle and he's--" I was about to tell him Kyle's here but...
"Reign? Do you have something to eat here? I'm getting hung-- Oh. You're still on the phone. I'm sorry," he said and then pursed his mouth.
Wait for it...
"OMG! OMG! Is that him?! Ooohhh!! He sounds so cute! Deck, are the bags ready? We should go. Now. As in now! Oh, can I talk to him? Wait, what's he doing there?! Does he live with you?! OMG!!"
I can't help but laugh at Dad. He sounds like a mom.
I put the phone back to my ear, which I've drawn away when he started shouting. "Dad, I told you, calm down. He doesn't live here, okay?" I spared a glimpse at Kyle and I saw him blushing after hearing what I've said to Dad. "Just... Something happened and... I'll tell you later, okay? I have to attend to him. Bye, Dad. I'll call you later." Before he could answer me I've already put down the phone. I faced Kyle and he's still flushed. "Hey..."
"You didn't have to do that, you know. It's okay. You should call him back," he said while averting his eyes from me.
"No. It's okay. I'm sure they'll understand." They're probably on their way now. "Oh, um... Are you hungry? We have food in the kitchen. Come on, follow me," I told him as I led the way.
