Reign Fang pulled her hair in frustration for the nth time.

"I almost lost him!" I shouted at Rhax through the mind link.

I stood aggravated in front of the guest room that Kyle was occupying while Rhax stared at me doubtfully.

"Relax. Nothing happened. And look, I know you weren't planning on telling him this soon but you have to calm down. Quit overreacting," Rhax said rather calmly.

"I just don't understand why he's there. How the heck did he get in the woods in the first place? And will you please answer me through the mind link? He might hear you and wake up," I answered Rhax, still frustrated at how close the wayward wolf could've killed my mate. I won't be able to forgive myself if I appeared any later. The thought of almost losing my mate still gives me the terror.

"Oh, shut up. The door's too thick for him to hear us. He must have super hearing to do otherwise, which is not possible. He's a human, remember? You told me yourself. Stop fussing over him."

I growled at him for telling me off, my wolf almost taking over after hearing Rhax deliberately insulted my mate's race. "You do not speak of my mate that way in front of me," I warned him.

Rhax instantly bowed his head after hearing my Alpha tone. "Sorry," he said almost immediately.

My wolf scoffed in satisfaction for making people bow at her.

Even without having the Alpha position of their pack, I can make people bow to me because of the Alpha blood that runs through my  system.

My former pack, the Sawtooth Pack, was destroyed due to a sudden attack by an enemy pack, killing almost everyone. My pack delivered a fair fight. But it wasn't enough to defeat an enemy pack with the number doubled of their own. Luckily, some of them escaped but never returned. The Alpha of the enemy killed my parents, who were then ruling the whole pack. Being an infant with no care in the world, I couldn't do anything.

Days after the attack, with the dead wolves and bodies already decaying, the Alpha of the Pack of the Silver Moon together with his Beta found the massacred pack with the help of one survivor who returned. They called for help immediately and searched the whole place for survivors. The Beta then entered the deceased Alpha's house and heard silent sobs. He searched the place and found me: Reign Blair.

They realized that there were no more survivors so they left the place, with me on the Beta's arms. The Alpha held a council meeting to decide where the young Alpha should stay. Everyone suggested that the Alpha should take the mysterious white-haired baby Alpha, seeing they have both the Alpha blood. The Alpha, who then already has an heir, considered the option. But the Beta stepped up and offered to take the baby Alpha, since he and his mate longed for a baby. After much deliberation, it was then decided where the baby should stay, adopted by the Beta and taking his name: Reign Fang.

The story has been retold to me many times, as I was always so eager to hear how I met my wonderful parents and the wonderful pack when I was growing up.

I have 'what-ifs' though. What if my former pack was never attacked? What if I never met my adoptive parents? What if I never knew of the Pack of the Silver Moon? What if I never knew this place and never met my mate?

My thoughts stopped instantly as pain erupted in my heart at the thought of never meeting my mate.

"Honestly, though. You should relax. You don't want facing your mate with that," he teased while pointing at my face. "You might scare him, you know. He was already terrified enough after seeing us shift like that. Although it was rather stupid of us to shift in front of him. I mean, the guy doesn't even believes in werewolves, I think. And he just saw us--"

I didn't let Rhax finish as I opened the door after hearing shuffles and grunts.

He's awake.
