The Dragon Warrior [Completed]

Bigger Mistakes

With a quick swerve, Myra whooshed past the guard, capturing his attention. At once he mounted his dragon, a surprisingly tame and quick Viperwing. I watched as he began to chase her, forgetting about the flag. Once Niko have gave us the signal, I swooped in, grabbing the flag while the rest watched. It was strange, an orange dragon with large jagged scales and long teeth. I simply shrugged and guided my Ixryu back to where we previously were. 

"To the river!" Niko yelled, pointing towards a small body of water off in the distance.

You'll be faster in the water. He said.

I almost forgot about our telepathic communication.

Okay then. I replied, challenging him.

He faintly smirked, accepting the challenge. I gave my Ixryu one last pat.

"Let's go girl."

By the time we reached the lake, trees were whirring past me, transforming into a raging green storm of it's own. The wind gleefully played with my hair, throwing it everywhere. Niko and I were neck and neck, sometimes passing by just and inch. We were both concentrated, feeling the cold rush of the air power our energy. Few seconds later and we would reach the lake, announcing the winner.

I took a small moment to look at his face. I was surprised to realize that he too was looking at me. He quickly looked back ahead. Then I caught a glimpse of worry on his face. Just as I was going to look ahead, I clashed full on with an unknown force. I lost grip of my Ixryu, which whimpered and cried in protest. As I was hurled to the water, I saw the silhouette of a dark figure racing towards me. I could feel the adrenaline starting to kick in as I came in contact with the cold water. Immediately, I felt another figure splash into the water, hurtling after me. Soft dry feathers nudged me, making me forcefully open my eyes. It was my Ixryu, and she was desperately trying to grab me with her beak. After numerous failed attempts, my lungs felt like bursting. I had definitely trained for situations like this, but a girl can't just hold their breath for 5 whole minutes.

Niko! I used my telepathic communication to try to get a message through. Are you there? I'm kind stuck in a situation here. I'd appreciate the help.

I saw little ripples and air bubbles travel up towards Niko. It was actually pretty cool. I would've been much in awe if only I hadn't been slowly sinking to the bottom of who- knows- what. In an instant, I saw little bubbles coming back towards me.

I'm also in a situation, so I can't really do much for you now. Niko said.

My heart stung at his words. Seriously? He's the one who got me into this mess and all of a sudden he can't help me? My anger is replaced with sadness and worry. Seconds later and I could drown. My eyes were already droopy, tired from all the struggling. I made one last attempt to swim, but to no avail- I remained motionless with the flag in my hand. I guess this is it. Today is the day I bid farewell to all friends and fami-

Whoosh!

An outrageous force launched me and my Ixryu in the air. Flipping in mid-air, I positioned myself so that I could land on her back. The Ixryu screeched, searching for me. Once I landed on her soft back, she bolted forwards, her wings dry and strong. If you were to shed a tear, I could bet you that it would roll right off of her. Stroking her purple and blue feathers, I suddenly coughed up water, forgetting that I had been underwater for so long. My vision blurred over, as I realized that we weren't  flying. I didn't even notice that my Ixryu was still screeching. Some thing was wrong, and I was completely oblivious.

Using the back of my hand to wipe my eyes, I readjusted myself, trying regain control. Nothing worked. We were losing altitude way too quickly. Even if she were to stop abruptly, I would be flung off or worse. Adrenaline failed to assist me as I went hurtling through the air for the second time today. I could just hardly make out the small standing figures of the people below us.

I am so going to die.
