The next couple of days I spend relaxing, drawing under trees and reading outside (when I can) since I'm under Yamato's watch most of the time. The days go by slowly and on the third day I can't help but pace, waiting for his arrival.
Yamato sits on the couch writing some important business things, he keeps glancing up at me, until finally he states distractedly, "Could you...sit down?"
I sigh and take a seat, tapping my foot on the ground now instead. Yamato groans and rubs his temples.
"Sorry," I say, and try to keep still.
He looks at me for a while, just stares. I shift uncomfortably under his gaze.
"You're really worried about him huh?" He whispers quietly.
I almost don't hear, and when I open my mouth, I don't get a chance to say anything as he gets up with his things.
"I'm going to my room, don't try any funny business," he says half-heartedly.
I could sense a hint of sadness in his voice. I look at the spot where his shape disappeared, and feel a bit of shame come over me. I must've hurt his feelings... or lead him on...I'm not a very good friend am I?
My brows furrow and I'm beginning to get a head ache, so I get up to make a cup of tea. It's already afternoon and there's still no sign of Kakashi. I feel a tug at the pit of my stomach, a lurch of worry. But I push it down as I try to relax and drink my tea.
---
Time flies by and it's already dark out, and I can't help but think that something went wrong, but at 1:00 in the morning I finally drift off.
---
Only a few hours later I hear a tap tap tapping on the window outside, rain has started to fall as well, a pitter patter-ing noise echoes as the droplets hit the roof. I sit up and go to my window, a messenger hawk stands there, its sleek feathers shine in the rain as it patiently waits for me to open the window. I slide it open and see a small note attached to the bird's leg.
"Sorry I couldn't come home sooner, in the hospital, don't worry. Be back soon. -Kakashi"
I crumple the note in my hand and grab some boots, not even bothering to get dressed out of my pajamas as I jump out of the window onto a nearby rooftop.
I skid across the rooftops, the strengthening rain making it difficult. Thunder booms in the distance, and soon enough I'm at the doors of the hospital. Most of the lights are off, but there is a person at the desk.
"What room is Kakashi Hatake in," I ask a bit frantically.
The girl gives me a weird look as she glances at her watch.
"I'm sorry ma'm we don't accept visitors at this hour."
I plead with her, and try to negotiate, but nothing gets her to budge. I pace a couple times, sneeze loudly (still cold and soaked from the rain) then I take a seat in the waiting room.
I drift in and out of consciousness. Then at who knows what time, I hear someone clear their throat loudly, and close to me. I jump awake and find the girl standing next to me.
"He's in room 221B on the second floor," she tells me with a kind apologetic smile.
I rub my eyes and thank her tiredly, then try to make my way to his room.
When I get there, I knock only briefly before opening the door. He lies there sleeping, his hand draped over the bottom portion of his face (habit I suppose), he's only wearing his undershirt on his upper body, the bottom part of him is covered in blankets.
I pull a chair up next to him and he stirs at the noise.
His eyes slowly flutter open, they're unfocused as they scan the area, stopping on me eventually.
"Yoki?" He says hoarsely.
"Hm?" I say tiredly, looking at him through half lidded eyes, my knees pulled up as I hug them to my chest.
He rubs his forehead, "How long have you been here, I told you not to worry," he says concerned.
"I got here only a little while ago, and that's physically and mentally impossible for me to do," I reply quietly, a small grin finding its way to my face.
He grunts and gives me that crooked smile that I'd missed so much, though he wasn't gone that long, it felt like an eternity.
"Of course", he says.
He tries to sit up, but grimaces in pain, when the blanket falls a bit I realize that what I'd thought was an undershirt, are actually bandages.
My heart tugs, and I give him a worried look, before rising quickly and slowly pushing him down.
"What happened?" I ask.
"It's a long story," he says tiredly.
"Well, we've got all day," I say with a gentle smile.
He grins back and chuckles, shaking his head a bit, he then moves over a little and pats the spot next to him, indicating for me to sit. I proceed to lay next to him, and sneeze loudly. He takes a strand of my damp hair.
"Did you come while it was raining?" He says a bit forceful, yet with an underlying gentle tone at the same time... If that's possible. I nod and he frowns.
"I'm fine," I tell him and give him the best smile I could muster in my exhaustion.
I finally settle down into the covers and gently nuzzling my head into the crook of his neck. He sighs contently.
As he opens his mouth to begin, I cut him off, "Promise me you'll take me with you next time."
He looks at me surprised, "I don't know if-"
"I don't think you understand how worried I was," I say, my voice cracking slightly betraying my emotions for a moment. I blush and look away from him.
Glancing over to him, I find his eyes are filled with an emotion I can't quite place.
"I promise," he whispers.
