The next week was spent with him in the hospital. He recovered slowly, but surely. I brought him his weird books, and read some of my own (normal books) as well.
At one point I was sent on a small mission with the team, Yamato was forced to come along, but he didn't help much. It was one of those easy C-rank ones, so it didn't take more than a day. It wasn't difficult, but the work was tedious, and by the time we were finished, we were all pretty tired (not including Yamato). The kids went back home to rest, and since I wanted to go back to the hospital for Kakashi, I decided it'd be better for the both of us if I took a shower.
I yawned as I opened the door; Yamato had been called in by the Hokage on urgent business. But, I know where the spare key is, so it was all fine. I walked in and through the keys on the counter, stretching my back as I strolled down the hallway.
I heard a noise suddenly, the sound of someone clearing their throat. I jumped a bit and immediately moved into a fighting position.
There, sitting on the couch, all nonchalant, was Kakashi. He chuckled and did his signature closed eye smile and waved. I clicked my tongue in annoyance.
"What are you doing here?" I said, my face heating up at being caught by surprise like that.
"They let me go since I've recovered enough to not have to stay in the hospital... why, did you not want me back?" He said teasingly.
"N-No... It’s not that..." I say hanging my head, my cheeks burning red (haha that rhymed).
"Did I scare little Yoki?" He teased in a child-like voice.
"No! I was just surprised," I huffed and stormed out of the room.
"Yoki!" He called after me.
I grabbed some spare clothes and went to the bathroom, locking the door and stripping quickly, then jumping into the shower. A little while later, after I'd already finished up in the shower, I heard some hobbling, a small crash, and then some more uneven footsteps, until finally there was a knock on the bathroom door.
"I was joking Yoki... I didn't mean anything by it," Kakashi said, a bit of desperation in his voice.
I sighed, so clueless, and opened the door, "I know silly, I was just...embarrased," I say rubbing the back of my head. I could see the shape of his mouth forming into an "o" through his mask, then he released an audible sigh of relief. I glanced down the hall and see a couple of things scattered around on the floor.
"Did you fall on your way here?" I say with a dead-panned expression.
"... well... i'm not completely recovered," Kakashi mumbled.
"Then why'd you come over in the first place! You're going to re-injure yourself! You should've just waited for me to get out of the shower," I say exasperated, nagging while helping him back to the living room.
"But, it was urgent," he said.
"No it wasn't," I say rolling my eyes.
"I thought you were mad," he said quietly.
"I thought ninjas are supposed to be perceptive, and you can't even tell the difference between angry and embarrassed," I say giggling.
"That's different!" he whined.
"Ok, if you say so," I stated grinning.
He sighed, "I'm not going to convince you am I?"
"Nope", I replied.
He plopped down on the couch, "Ok I give up," he said and patted the spot next to him.
I smiled and handed him his pervy book, then sat with my (not pervy) book in my lap. I leaned against him as he wrapped his arm around me, and we both read for a while before drifting off to sleep.
