After those few words, all those years ago, I'd completely lost it.
And let's just say that Sakura walked into the very awkward scene of her sensei and me making out. (With me still blubbering away at having such an amazing guy as mine.)
Since then, the village was rebuilt and looked as beautiful as ever.
Kakashi proposed to me around a year after, on a cool winter day when the first snow had just fallen. He'd taken me to a small desolate ice skating area... (he can't ice skate btw) We ended up falling and he slipped the ring on and proposed right then and there.
Later, we got a small house of our own in a peacful part of town, while Sakana and Yamato remained in the apartment.
(Oh, speaking of Sakana, I got an earful of both scolding, crying, I missed you' s and I love you' s from her upon my return. Yamato was also happy to see me and gave me a bear hug before saying he'd missed me a lot as well.) I expected those two to get married soon, or at least engaged within the next few months...
Anyways, Kakashi had convinced me to remain in Konoha, and to my surprise there was less conflict with enemies than I'd thought there'd be. The remaining Akatsuki didn't seem interested anymore... I suppose they decided they wanted somewhat of a challenge from those who decided to fight, that is, if they ever revived the rest of the juubi.
There were a few other groups that tried to attack me on missions or in the village as well, and almost always Kakashi was there to help me kick their asses, and when he wasn't, I was still perfectly fine.
The village had accepted me almost instantly after my decision to stay. Many brought over 'welcome home' presents and an assortment of foods and goodies.
And so, I live in an almost peaceful life at the moment.
Kakashi and I had informally adopted Satoru into our family; the boy came around quite often for dinner and just to talk when he became to lonely in his own small apartment. He spoke to us as if we were truly his parents sometimes... about training, and the jonin test, missions, and once or twice I'd even caught him talking to Kakashi about a girl!
Anyways, Satoru looked to us for approval and guidance... he got it ten-fold, at least from me... I wouldn't hesitate to show my pride at any of his accomplishments, even the smallest ones.
Haha, and speaking of children, there's a little Kakashi and Kaka-she on their way in a few months. Twins!!!!
Breaking the news to the ninja with the gravity defying hair had been somewhat of a difficult process. Everytime I'd begun to mention it he'd say something about a mission, or his book, or say how troublesome his now 'grown' students were, or how annoying Satoru could get sometimes.
Until, finally, I had snapped and just thrown a pregnancy test at his chest and stormed off to eat ice cream elsewhere.
And to my surprise, he'd burst into tears, pulled me into a hug, and wouldn't let me go for the rest of the night and half of the next day.
Other than that, I'd gotten to know the new Hokage, Tsunade after she'd awoken from her coma. Naruto and Sakura had gotten pretty close with me as well, and we're both keen on finding the third member of their squad, Sasuke.
Oh, and most recently of all, Kakashi got me that puppy he promised!!!!
******
