I stared in shock, the Hokage's words still hanging in the air; the ringing of his voice against the walls still echoing.
There was silence, the Hokage staring at us with somewhat proud and congratulatory eyes. They held expectency as he awaited our answers. Out of my peripheral vision I noticed Kakashi and Yamato grinning, though they soon began to shift uneasily as the silence dragged on.
"Seriously?" I breathed out, just as Sakana whipsered, "Really?" Our voices came out in hopeful whispers.
"Yes, I've decided that I can't confine you to a house and waste ninja to babysit grown and useful kunoichi," he replied, still giving us that same comforting grandpa smile, "You'll be elite jonin now."
A grin broke out across my face, "So we get to go out of the house... and on missions?"
He nodded, "We'll have to go slow at first though, we are still unsure of you're intentions," he droned, as if someone had purposely told him thousands of times to say this, or as if he was quoting someone else.
His demeanor showed he felt the opposite; that he could trust us.
I almost squealed with excitement and happiness; I'd never expected them to make me anything more than a prisoner, especially after what I've done. I stopped myself before I yelled, saving myself from the embarrasment.
Sakana on the other hand couldn't help herself, and jumped up, fist pumping, "HELL YEAH!" She yelled.
I giggled, then turned back to the Hokage, still smiling widely, "Thank you Hokage-sama," I said formely, bowing stiffly.
Sakana somewhat caught on as she halted in her excitement and bowed loosely.
He chuckled, "My pleasure," then he got up and took something from out of a drawer in his desk. He walked over to us, handing us both black Konoha headbands, and jonin ninja vests. I tied mine around my neck, while Sakana tied hers on her left arm. I then put the vest on and it fit perfectly.
"You are dismissed, your first missions as Leaf ninja will be assigned later this week," he informed us, releasing us from the room as he could sense our barely contained excitement.
"Hai, Hokage-sama," we stated in unison, nodding our heads curtly. We then all turned to leave.
Once we were out of his room, and a good ways down the hall, we both squealed with excitement, and hugged each other. Tears were building in my eyes and blurriness began to overtake my vision as I realized I'm actually being given a full second chance.
I turned to find the two guys standing there looking proud and happy for us. I imediately ran and hugged Kakashi tightly. He made an "umpf" sound of surprise as I made impact, then he wrapped his arms around me as well. I pulled away in time to see Sakana kissing Yamato, when they pulled away they were both blushing madly.
I didn't even have to look at Kakashi to know we had the same expression on, the "Yup, I called it" face.
Sakana cleared her throat, "Um... we'll see you guys later!" she laughed, then pulled a still blushing Yamato behind her.
I giggled at her childish tactics. "You wanna go for a walk?" Kakashi asked.
"That sounds good," I replied, smilng up at him.
We walked out of the Hokage mansion, and onto the bustling streets of Konoha. He lead me towards a more forested area, and once we hit the trees, the amount of people thinned out and quiet, humble chirping replaced the loud obnoxious voices of humans. I breathed in the fresh air and we walked in a comfortable silence. We reached a slight clearing about fifteen minutes later, and I sat against a large tree trunk, staring up its length and into the different greens of the overhanging canopy.
Kakashi sat next to me, and I smiled at him, then leaned against his shoulder.
My head found its way to the crook of his neck, and he tilted his head slightly, so his cheek was pressed against my head.
I turned slightly after a while, switching my position so I was facing his side while he was still leaning against the tree. I giggled and tugged at the collar of his vest.
"We're matching now!" I laughed.
He smiled back at me through his mask, as I stared into his eyes my smile slowly faded, and I leaned in. His eyes had clouded as well and he began to move closer. I pressed my forehead against his as I continued to stare into his onyx eyes.
"That was a really amazing surprise," I whispered, my voice coming out slightly more husky than I'd intended, "Thanks."
His eyes seemed to darken, "You're welcome," he breathed out.
I couldn't help myself; I leaned forward and brought my hand up, pulling down his mask slowly.
His eyelids half closed as I did so, I couldn't help but inhale sharply as his face was fully uncovered, his features breathtaking as always. I stared at his lips for a few moments, their perfectness mesmerizing me. He made a breathy noise, that turned into somewhat of a groan of impatience, he leaned in first, and our lips touched.
My heart was beating a mile a minute as we deepened the kiss, I ran my hand through his hair, then shifted my position, my side getting cramped at the sideways one we'd been in before. With out thinking I swung my leg to the other side of him, so I was sitting on his lap now. He gasped a little.I then decided this was getting to heated, and pulled away slowly and grudgingly, burying my face in his neck as I breathed heavily. I got up slowly, my body feeling hot and my face definelty red.
He looked conflicted as he stared up at me, "Sorry," he mumbled, his voice gravily.
I rubbed the back of my neck, and giggled, "You don't have to apologize," I replied embarrased, then grabbed his vest collar and heaved him up.
He seemed surprised at my strength and coughed awkwardly, pulling up his mask.
"Come on, let's head back," I smiled and interlocked his arm with mine.
