Lynn's POV

"Get out of my bar, freak!" James shouted as he aimed the long gun he stowed below the counter for emergencies directly at Logan's back.

Logan, just relax. James means no harm, I advised, further distracting him slightly as I moved on to deal with James.

"Baby, put that down, please," I begged, desperately tugging on his arm but his usual persistence prevailed.

"Sweetie, don't get involved. Just stay behind me," James ordered softly as he quickly shuffled in front of me, acting like a shield standing himself between Logan and I.

"I'm not done with him," James insisted firmly, while still maintaining his weapon targeted to Logan's back, but there was a significant quiver in his frame, undeniably giving away the true extent of his distress.

But I think you'd be quite done with me, I refuted sheepishly as I forcefully yanked the shotgun out of his grasp with my telekinesis.

James' jaw dropped and his horrified gaze followed the floating gun that eventually stationed horizontally over my head, as did the few remaining in the area only because they had not reacted fast enough to evacuate themselves from the mutant-ridden premises.

The humans gasped in fear when the magazine appeared to have mysteriously detached itself from the main body as I mentally disengaged it and again when the container of ammunition precisely landed in my palm while the disarmed weapon was returned neatly onto the counter.

"Charles?" I called out uncertainly as I locked eyes with James.

I got it, Charles promptly replied and everyone in the area froze, except James and I.

"Sw- Sweetie... You..." James stammered, peering down at me with an ultimately appalled expression after he had scrutinized the odd state of his surroundings.

"I'm sorry, James," I apologized remorsefully, looking sincerely into his distraught blue eyes that displayed nothing but his disbelief.

I'm a freak, I admitted, hovering the bullet feeding device to safety and he instinctively cupped his mouth, naturally stumbling back into the bar as he registered the staggering news and sight.

"And Charles is the powerful mutant who can penetrate our minds," I calmly revealed but James was contrastingly breathing heavily and erratically as he processed all the staggering information.

"Baby..." I blurted shakily, reaching out to his hand but he instantly flinched away and I could only give him a helpless gaze as I watched him gradually lower his traumatized self to the ground.

I'm terribly sorry you had to find out in this way, I articulated guiltily as James buried his sobbing face into his palms.

I will tell you everything. And answer anything you want to know. As long as you're willing to hear me out, I whispered pleadingly and James finally looked at me again, with his eyes filled with pain and betrayal yet not quite an identifiable tinge of hate.

Cautiously approaching him, I tediously slipped off my chair and gradually scooted myself across over the floor towards him. Thankfully, he did not shun again this time, allowing me to caress his damp face and wipe his tears instead as I intertwined my fingers with his.

"Do you want me to start from the beginning?" I asked quietly and he gave me a single nod as both of us leaned comfortably on the side of the bar facing each other.
