Lynn's POV

"After four decades, you come to me with a bouquet on Valentines' Day," I remarked, still smiling at Charles in amazement.

"What is up with you, Xavier?" I commented curiously, intently scrutinizing that charming yet unpredictable face.

"I just thought it would be nice to celebrate for a change," Charles admitted softly, tucking my hair behind my ear and tenderly kissed my lips again.

"Sure, you did," I mumbled, giggling.

"Do you like them?" Charles snooped in a keen tone, brushing his fingers on the pinkish petals.

"They're lovely, Charles. Thank you," I acknowledged truthfully.

"But you really didn't have to," I insisted respectfully.

"I wanted to," Charles reassured, smiling.

"Would you go on a date with me tonight?" Charles cordially invited, a look of pure exuberance radiating from his eyes.

"You made plans?" I challenged in amusement and he readily nodded.

"Without my knowledge?" I confronted in an astonished tone but he laughed heartily.

"Yes, my love. That's usually how surprises work," Charles affirmed humorously.

"So, what do you say? Dinner, just you and I," Charles prompted eagerly as he took my hand.

"I'd love to," I gladly agreed and he beamed in elation.

"What should I wear?" I probed innocently.

"Nothing," Charles answered mischievously but I immediately narrowed my eyes at him with a pokerface to which his cheeky expression rapidly faltered into an entertained one.

"The theme is silver," he declared proudly.

"You have a theme?!" I interrogated dramatically, utterly flabbergasted, but Charles merely chuckled at my inevitably exaggerated reaction.

"I'll see you at six, Lynn," Charles informed cheerfully and politely planted a peck to my forehead before he turned his back, nonchalantly steering his way out of the classroom.

"Wait, you're leaving me?" I questioned, my confused thoughts unwittingly bouncing off my tongue.

"You'll be alright," Charles asserted confidently, pausing only for a fleeting moment, and I unknowingly permitted his back to wheel away before I registered to chase after his tracks.

"What exactly am I supposed to do now that you've cancelled all my classes?!" I shouted across the thankfully empty corridor.

"Get ready for our date!" Charles yelled haughtily before disappearing around the bend.

Thoroughly bewildered, I slumped into my chair and the past ten minutes or so automatically flashed by in my disoriented brain. The romantic images and dreamy scenes looped themselves in an infinite repeat, eventually settling in, and I blurted several laughters of disbelief as I actually lost count of the number of times I had been caught stumped by his series of ridiculous actions and absurd speeches.

For once regaining my composure after his unexpected visit, I smiled appreciatively at the exquisite bundle in my hand and swiftly drove myself towards my personal boudoir, neatly preserved in its original state despite my extended departure. Although only arranging the delightful gift into a vase and sieving out an outfit for our apparent date, the afternoon whizzed past quickly as I worked from my sprawled position on my chaise lounge.
