Charles' POV
Logan tailed us closely into the basement and entering the vacant meeting room, severity instantly polluted the environment encased by the polished walls as his heavy paces dragged sluggishly into the premises. His face wrote nothing but his troubles and concerns as he warily took his seat, fiddling edgily with his fingers unaccustomed in the absence of a cigar.
"Listen, Logan. I've been into your mind, but I'm afraid, I'm still unable to reach anything you're looking for," I revealed tactfully and maintaining a kind eye contact with him, I witnessed his frustrations manifesting wildly as I broke him the news.
"You said he could help me!" Logan denounced furiously and sprang up from his seat.
Towering intimidatingly above Lynn, Logan slammed his palm violently onto the table but Lynn was hardly fazed, merely closing her eyes and inhaled deeply as she strived to conquer her overpowering urge to lash out at the irrational man.
"Logan, calm down. It's not her fault," I claimed sternly, wrapping my arms protectively around Lynn as I continuously rubbed her shoulders to alleviate her heightened blood pressure resulting from Logan's temperamental behavior and eventually, after several moments, Lynn managed to collect herself.
"Logan, will you sit down, please?" Lynn requested politely and Logan grudgingly sank himself into the wooden furniture, huffing in annoyance as he stared bitterly into the distance.
"Charles, you and I, we've spent some time together in the past," Lynn enlightened in a kind tone.
"We know about some of the things that have happened to you and we can tell you everything you want to know about them," Lynn assured sincerely, piquing Logan's eyes with reignited faith and excitement.
"But you'd have to take our word for it," Lynn asserted gravely and Logan frowned at her in moderate confusion.
"And you're not a man as such," Lynn elucidated perceptively, transforming Logan's perplexed expression into that of astonishment as Lynn nonchalantly unveiled his mysterious side.
"We understand that you need to discover this on your own," I emphasised sympathetically and gestured for him towards the advanced mapping device in the corner of the room.
"There's an abandoned military compound at Alkali Lake in the Canadian Rockies," I educated, circling the location of the covert base on the virtually erected terrain with a green laser pointer while Lynn conscientiously retrieved an atlas from its storage compartment concealed underneath the table top.
Conveniently levitating it into her own lap, Lynn casually flipped through the book of charts but just as she landed herself at the relevant page, Logan rudely snatched it away from her. Thoroughly studying the corresponding geographical outline of the area, a strange expression gradually plagued Logan's face in the course of his engrossed examination and he hesitantly directed his puzzled gaze from the pictorial illustrations towards Lynn.
"This place..." Logan murmured, staring at Lynn suspiciously as his finger indicated the vicinity of Lynn's prior lodging which fell within a fifty-mile radius of his target, and she swallowed uneasily, anxiety rapidly bleeding into her fidgety frame.
"It's- It's rather close to his bar and... And where we liv-" Lynn stuttered nervously, her body and voice both subjected to a jittery tremor.
"Used- To live," Lynn mumbled agonizingly as her breathings accelerated into erratic respirations that progressively increased the difficulty for her to draw oxygen from the surroundings.
As her distress escalated immensely, Lynn's body tensed and she clawed forcefully into her own thigh, essentially like she wanted to rip apart the fabric of her jeans with her bare nails. Regardless that there was no apparent sensation whatsoever, it was clearly harmful to her own flesh judging by the white flashed unto her knuckles.
