Bilbo Baggins

By Gandalf the Gray

"I'm going on an adventure!"
An exciting prospect
For my Hobbit.

He ran through the
Green grass,
Jumping over hedges
While the neighbors looked
On in wonder
At the queer Hobbit

As we walked with our Burglar,
He told us, "I'm a Baggins."
I reminded him, "You're also a Took."

I recalled times when he would
Come into the house
Very late
Trailing mud and butterflies

The others were doubtful
Of my Hobbit
And yet I knew he would come
For he was a Took
No matter how he might suppress it.

In those goblin caves
He found his courage
And something else,
Something quite unexpected.

"I'm going on an adventure!"
It was his Unexpected Journey,
Into the Desolation of Smaug.
He was my Hobbit, their Burglar,
And our Bilbo who went
There and Back Again.
