Lincoln let out a frown as she got off the bus with Parker at their bus stop. She had not seen any man watching them, but what if there was. Was someone following them? All these crazy thoughts raced through Lincoln's head as she walked into the apartment building with Parker. She bit her lips as she glanced behind them, checking to make sure no one looked suspicious. Still being very cautious, Lincoln took out her keys and opened their front door. Parker rushed into the apartment, Lincoln close behind him. She locked the door and used all the bolts to enforce the door lock. Parker watched his mom walk around the house, checking a few things and also pulling all the curtains closed.

"Is everything alright mommy?" Parker takes off his jacket. Lincoln pushes a stray hair behind her ear nodding her head.

"Yes, I just wanted to make sure everything is in place." She tells him setting her purse on the counter. "Go on and the wash your hands then we'll start your homework." Lincoln tells Parker. Parker gathers his shoes and jacket before dashing off down the small hall. Lincoln sighs and glanced at her phone. No missed calls. She set the phone down then made her way to the stove. She filled a kettle with water and set it on the stove to boil. Lincoln really needed some tea. When she finished making the tea, Parker came back into the kitchen with his school books. He didn't have too many things to do so they were done fairly quickly.

That night Lincoln rested in her bed bundled up in her blankets, Parker sound asleep besides her. Typically, she would carry him into his room, but tonight she decided against it. Feeling restless, and ready for bed, Lincoln silently climbed out of the bed to turn the lights off in the house. Her feet made contact with the cold floor, sending chills down her spin.

Yawning, Lincoln walked into the kitchen and turned off the lights. She dragged herself to the front door and secured all the locks before walking to the set of windows that overlooked the street below. Lincoln reached up to pull the curtains close, but something caught her eye. She pressed her face closer to the window to get a better view. Across the street a man stood, leaning against the complex. He was staring right into Lincoln's window, making eye contact with her.

Lincoln jumped back in shock and quickly shut the curtain. She shook her head as she walked back to her bedroom, it was probably a drunk person loitering in the streets. Letting out a sigh, Lincoln climbed back to the warmth of her bed. She leaned over and placed a kiss on Parker's head before her own head hit the pillow, her eyes immediately closing shut.

Wednesday, October 3rd

The next morning, Lincoln rolled over onto her side, blinking her eyes to adjust them to the sunlight that beamed into the room. She slowly sat up and rubbed the sleep from her eyes. "Parker?" She looked besides her to see the space he was sleeping in empty. Lincoln jumped out of the bed, the blankets tangling around her leg, causing her to go tumbling to the ground with a loud thump.

"Mommy?" Parker peered his head around the doorway to see his mother a jumbled heap on the ground. "Are you okay?" He calls to her, his eyes slightly wide in shock.

Lincoln groans and slowly untangles herself from the blankets, "Yeah, I'm fine...what were you doing?" She throws the blankets back onto the bed and turns her attention to Parker.

"I needed to use the bathroom," he smiles up at her, proud of himself for not needing her help. Lincoln runs a hand over her face, nodding her head slightly. She didn't know why she was so nervous and paranoid.

"Okay, go watch some cartoons for me," she kicks him out of the room. She grabs her phone off the nightstand and checks to see if there were any messages from Niall, and there weren't any. Lincoln sets the phone back to charge and makes her bed. She walks to the bathroom, turning on the lights as she enters. Lincoln looks at herself in the mirror and winces. She had dark circles under her eyes, which was strange because she felt like she was getting enough sleep. She splashed her face with cold water to wake her.

"Want toast?" Lincoln walks into the kitchen after her quick shower. Parker was on the couch watching teen titans. He looks away from the tv for a second to answer.

"Yes, please."

Lincoln turned on the coffee machine before grabbing the loaf of bread, placing two in the toaster. She grabbed a plate and a jar of peanut butter to place on the toast when it was ready. "Parker, come eat." Lincoln made her cup of coffee and slowly began to sip on it. Parker sat in his chair and began to eat the toast. Lincoln watched him for a second before getting up to get his school clothes ready.

"Crap," Lincoln curses when she looked at the time to see they were running late. "We need to go now, honey." Parker grabs his school bag from besides the door. Lincoln grabs her purse and rushes out of the apartment. The two managed to get to the bus before it started to pull off.

"Be good at school," Lincoln bid Parker goodbye, and then she was off to her job.

When Lincoln walked into the diner, it was relatively empty. Only a few tables were occupied. She made her way to the back to put her things away and to put on an apron.

"Hey," Aspen shoved her notepad into her apron. Lincoln smoothed out hers and grabbed her pen and pad. "Feels like I haven't seen you in a while," Aspen leans against the counter a small smile on her face. "How's everything?"

"Okay, I haven't been feeling the best lately, and I feel like I'm losing my mind." Lincoln admits. The two glances over to the door when they hear the bell ring. "I'll take it, we'll talk later," Lincoln grabs a menu and makes her way over to the customer waiting to be seated.

"Hi, table for one?" The man looks her over and nods his head. Lincoln couldn't really make out his face because he had large dark sunglasses on as well as a black cap. "Alight, follow me." Lincoln walked in over to a booth toward the middle of the dinner. She set the menu in front of him. "Can I start you with anything to drink?"

"Yes, a coffee, Lincoln."

Lincoln felt her heart beat ten times faster as she looks down at this man. How did he know her name? "Do I know you?" She speaks before she could stop herself. The man looks up from the menu, but his eyes were still blocked from the shades.

"Your name tag..."

Lincoln lets out a nervous laugh, "right, sorry, I'll be back with your drink." She quickly walks away from him and makes her way behind the counter.

"What was that all about?" Aspen raises a brow noticing Lincoln's jumpy behavior. "You sure everything is okay with you?" Lincoln quickly nods as she pours the hot coffee into the mug.

"Yeah, I'm fine." Lincoln walks back to the customer and places the mug in front of him. "Do you need another minute to look over the menu?"

"Uh...I'll have the breakfast combo with the eggs scrambled, and the bacon crispy." He handed her the menu. Lincoln found it odd that he never took off his shades.

"Okay, I'll get that for you," She smiles and returns to place the order to the kitchen staff. "That guy give me the creeps," Lincoln shudders. Aspen adds more coffee to the coffee machine.

"What'd he do?"

"He's just giving off these bad vibes, and look he's just sitting there with shades on indoors." Lincoln points out. Aspen looks over to the man and analyzes him for a second.

"Maybe his eyes are sensitive to the light? I have a cousin who has that condition. I think you're overthinking things," Aspen wipes her hands on her apron. Lincoln stands there for a second, Aspen was probably right.

"I think I'm going crazy."

"I'll take him, you can take my table." Aspen offers. Lincoln nods her head in thanks. "Drink some water, you look a little pale...are you sure you're not sick?" Aspen questions again. Lincoln shakes her head, placing her hand on her forehead.

"I think I'm just stressed." Lincoln grabs a water bottle from the fridge and takes a drink from it. "This day just needs to end." She sets the water down right when all the food was ready. Aspen grabbed the first tray and brought the food over to the mystery man.
