Mia POV
Monday striked again and I dreaded the energy and effort I had to present myself. I knew it was going to be a terrible day, comparison to this weekend. I changed with no enthusiasm as always, but today I had a different feeling towards it. I seen my mother in the kitchen drinking her usual cup of coffee. "Good morning" She said finally breaking the silence between us.
"Morning." I said with no sort of expression. "Mia...I'm sorry things escalated that night. I'm just worried about you."
"Well you don't need to be. I'm a adult and I can take care of myself." I was tired of being treated as a toddler always being looking over.
"I know you are, I forget how grown up you have gotten." She said admitting. "I just don't want you near him. I just won't stand it...it brings back too much-"
"Mom please, I don't care to talk about him." I didn't want to begin to speak about him, since I had him on my mind daily.
"Fair enough, just promise me one thing. Stay away from him." I bit my bottom lip.
"I have to get to work." I reached for my keys and walked out hurriedly. I started driving to work.
Once I walked in I smelled the same aroma of coffee and fresh food being made. I tossed the apron on my body and began this dreadful day. Maria was surprised to see me in today. Her eyes widen to see my presence.
"Mia...how are you?" She said coming close to my side.
"I'm fine...never been better." I didn't want to be reminded.
"You didn't have to show up to work today." I shook my head, "no I needed to."
"No you didn't, you know I could have taken care of it today." She said sincerely.
"Can we pretend nothing happened." I said brushing pass her shoulder and pouring more coffee into some people's mugs.
"If that's what you want..." Maria said confused. I wanted to forget it. I don't want others to feel pity for me and view me as this weak girl. I watch Maria walk away without saying another word. If I had to be a little rude, it's because I couldn't be this weak link everyone sees me as. I hate being mean to others but if it was the only way to get my point across I had too, for my own sake.
The annoyance of my phone kept buzzing and now that my mother and I are talking again, it had to be her. I pulled it out to check what she wanted but it wasn't her. It was an unknown number. I had a missed call and now I had text.
'Hey, it's Marco I got a your number off Maria...just wanted to know how you were doing?'
I looked up at Maria, how could she give him my number without asking me? I launched at her angrily. "Why did you give out my number to Marco?" She looked confused. "Who?" She didn't have any memory who Marco was because that night we were both wasted. "Phora. You gave my number to Phora seriously?"
"Oh yeah I did...didn't know it would be such a big deal?" She said moving to side so people won't hear us.
"It is a big deal. The reason why he didn't have my number in the first place because I didn't want him to have it." I pointed out to her harshly. "And honestly who do you think you are to give out my number?" Maybe I was overreacting, but I was so mad and so upset all these mix feelings didn't make it any better.
"Mia I'm sorry I thought you guys were friends." She confessed. "And it's just a number I didn't know you would react like this?" She looked at me weirdly.
"I know it's just a number, but it's my number and I regret giving it to you." I went back to work and not saying another word to Maria. I was pissed and I was not going to text Marco back. If this ruined our friendship, I really wouldn't careless.
...
It was my turn to close again. I made sure everything was locked and the alarm was active. I closed the door behind me making sure it was locked, and at the time I felt pressure into my lower back. Something heavy was on me and I couldn't bare to move.
"Open that door!" The aggressive voice said. I shook my head, "no" I managed to say.
He turned me to face him, and pushed me against the brick walls. He looked into my eyes, his dark brown eyes were filled with anger. I could tell he was in the gang by his tattoos that were printed on his face. "Look I wouldn't want to hurt that pretty face of yours, so I'm going to asked one more time....OPEN THAT FUCKEN DOOR!!!" He shouted at my face. I shook my head again I was not going to let this criminal get his way.
He pulled out his gun and placed it under my jawline. "You really want to die tonight" He said it more like a threat than a question. I didn't reply which made him grew frustration. "I'll take that as a yes" He smirked.
This is it. I was going to die. Be one of those girls they pass on the news so everyone could talk about it, about me. And I was okay with that. I was okay with dying...I had already been through so much that I knew this wouldn't make anything different. I closed my eyes and knew this was it.
"Get the fuck off of her." My eyes travelled up so see Marco. I was a bit happy to see him, and I hated to admit that. The man turned to look up at Marco and smirked. He pointed the gun straight at him. My eyes watered to see him inching closer to pull the trigger. "No." I jumped on his back and he shot in a direction I couldn't tell. He pushed me off of his and ran, leaving his gun behind.
Marco was on the floor he was shot on his stomach. He flinched his eyes in pain and I pulled out my phone quickly calling an ambulance. I rushed to his side, and he looked up at me holding my hand in his.
"You're going to be alright, I promise." Tears fell loosely off my face scared. I pulled him close to me hugging him and watching the blood stain his white t-shirt.
I couldn't stop myself from crying even when we were in the hospital. I waited in the waiting room, still crying I knew I got some attention on me but I didn't care at the moment. All I wanted was to know if he was okay and that's what made it even harder to wait hours to know.
